Same! |
I accidentally started another thread on this (must have been deleted) because I am so exited to see the movie! As I said in my thread, I am a 47-year old card carrying member of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee, so this book stuck with me! We passed it around like elicit contraband in my 6th grade class. What books from that early adolescence stuck with you? |
I am 60 and feel like a girl needs to be about 8 or 9 for it to have the same thrill we experienced at 11 or 12. |
I had my 10-year-old start reading it and she loves it! I told her the book had been banned a lot and that made her even more excited to read it. |
My 13 yo DD has very strong ideas about what is cool and what is cringe but she and her BFF are SO EXCITED to see this. I’m hoping they’ll let me accompany them. |
I mean my mom had to explain that to me when I was a kid reading this book in the 90s too. But I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It just shows how much things have changed since that time. It’s good to show some historical context for stuff! |
+1 I’m 50 and when I read it at 11 this wasn’t a thing either. |
I had never read it even though I probably around the age of the original target audience. Saw the NBC Judy Blume interview and she was so excited about the movie, that I decided to read the book that day. I can see why people like it but don't really get why it was banned at times. Just because of mentioning periods? |
Yes - periods, and boobs/bras. Sexual feelings. Also religion- her mom was Christian and her dad Jewish so they decided to let Margaret decide for herself which religion to be? That was questioned by many parents as unsuitable for children to read. |
I asked my daughter about that when she read the book a few years ago (and loved it). I think they changed the pad technology in the more recent edition of the book. Not sure about the movie but I look forward to seeing it with her. She and I loved watching the Babysitters Club series on Netflix together after bonding about those books. |
LOL at "pad technology"! |
Not possible, but I’m still really looking forward to it! Gonna see it with my mother ![]() |
Does your daughter also get confused by horses and carriages instead of cars? Just explain to her that they did things differently back then. |
My 11 year old wants to see it with me. We’ll probably be there opening night! |
The trailers make it look so good! Fingers crossed. |
