It's a good school that unfortunately gets overlooked by many solely because it's too close to home.

Exactly. I’m sure other kids (from elsewhere) rule out universities that they live close to as well. Kids from all over come to GMU, so it’s really just locals who pooh-pooh it due to proximity.

+1 DS, in Arlington, would not consider GMU even though it had a great program for his interest. My friend's kid in Richmond was accepted this week and it's her first choice. She wouldn't apply to VCU. I was the same back when I was applying to colleges -- would not consider UCLA because it was too close to home and I'd visited the campus so many times for school field trips.

Congratulations? Would you be willing to share her stats and whether she was TO?

DD got $68,000 with similar, if not better, GPA than my DS had in 2020, when my son got much more than that (maybe even more than $80,000, I can't remember). However, my son submitted SAT scores. Another difference is that DD attends a private school with fewer APs (and fewer weighted courses), and my son attended public.

That is really unusual and outstanding! I didn't think Mason gave much merit aid.

That was supposed to be "Congratulations!!" - no question mark.

A lot of locals pooh-pooh it because many many years ago it was a mediocre commuter college and that has stuck in some people's minds. It hasn't been that in 20 yrs, but it takes time for (true) local memory to fade.

Ask an older native Bostonian about Northeastern.

It is a good school.

George Mason University is ranked #137 out of 443 National Universities. People are paying far more to send their kids to schools that are not nearly as good. THere's a long thread about that on here somewhere.

Thanks. Well deserved award. Those stats make more grateful for what DD got with TO.
