Capital Orange Parents - If you could do it all over again

always take the A team. Let your daughter shine. Why play B? You must be truly materialistic to think that's worth it.

The B team by definition will never be a strong team. If several good players go to another club and are the top team they could challenge Capital Blue. Look at Maryland there are many clubs better than M&D red.

But metro, mc elite and yjma aren't A teams. Just because it is the only team the club has, doesn't make it an A level team. Pride and capital B teams are only B by name.

Agreed and good point. Depending on definition, Capital blue is really the only true A team in the area. I would put Pride Black Next and call them a B team. Capital Orange is may be a B too depending. The other area high school age travel teams are C and lower. To me, an A team is someone that can compete and hang with the top Maryland clubs (M&D, Hero's, Skywalkers). Just one person's opinion.

My DD is a recent Orange team player who is now in college.

We’d probably do it again just for the fun and experience but our family would go in knowing that DD would very likely not play D1or D3 in college. The colleges that the Orange team members end up at, if they want to play in college, are for the most part a joke. The recruiting director basically pays lip service to the Orange team players and parents and only gives them real attention once the Blue team is almost fully recruited. If your girl is smart and has top grades the recruiting director still steers your DD to crappy colleges and then gets all upset when you say no. My DD is now a starter on the club team at her Ivy and she is happy with that result and we are too. Much better than being one of 40 on a D1 team at a college that she otherwise would never attend. Recruiting has gotten so competitive that Capital does not get the Orange team recruited like they used to.

Metro and MCE, don’t know about YJMA, def don’t have the depth as Capital A, BUT both have talent and good schedules and tough games that prepare the girls for their HS seasons and for recruiting, the purpose of club, and this supports discussion whether Cap Orange is worth it. Just do simple research over the last few 3-4 years. 24 Cap B players r still going thru the process, but I do wonder if the girls who passed up spots on A teams, might have been further along in process if they had a made a different decision.

Always go A team with a club that has top HS players and has recruiting success. If you don’t make an A, go Cap Orange.

You keep saying, "always pick an A team", but Metro, YJMA and MC Elite are not A teams. So if you don't make Cap Blue, pride is a close 2nd. Then I would argue Stars new HS program would still be above metro, MC elite and YJMA. College coaches are not watching any bracket that Metro is in, whcih is unfortunate for those girls.

US News ranks as national schools more than 200 colleges and 400 universities. I’m not a big believer in their individual rankings but Capital Orange (and occasionally a few Blue) players are at schools that don’t make it on either of those lists. Not gonna call out individual schools bc my DD has Capital Orange friends at some of them but I do not understand paying Capital thousands of dollars, traveling to all the tournaments, paying for all the private lessons, clinics and camps to then pay thousands to such a school if the player has better options academically. The Capital girls we know at these schools could have attended better schools academically but choose lacrosse instead. So all I’m saying is Orange players should not expect to get recruited by very strong academic schools.

I think this is a good post. Your DD should pick schools first and if lacrosse is an option for her at those schools then great. It is troubling when you see kids pick a school for lacrosse when you know they would not go there w/o lacrosse.

I have friends who have DDs who had similar experiences with Capital Orange. They didn’t get much attention from the club and those who committed primarily chose lacrosse over school. Playing club at your school of choice is a much better option.

Every year is different for clubs, but the one consistent is Capital Blue. Prides only real high school A team was their 2023 class. They played the second hardest schedule of all clubs their last year and competed in the highest brackets against the best teams. Capital Orange will not play in the top brackets or against the best teams. Pride A is not nearly as good as it was but it is a better option over Capital Orange.

Good insight, thanks. Sounds like Pride Black might be the second best option behind Cap Blue.

Especially if the best non Capital Blue players coordinate better than the last few years and funnel to Pride Black.

On the other hand if they get together and stay at Capital I do believe the Capital resources will prove beneficial to a solid Orange team. It is all about the behind the scenes and convincing girls to stick together which is tough to do when girls are coming from so many places.
