My DD is a recent Orange team player who is now in college.

We’d probably do it again just for the fun and experience but our family would go in knowing that DD would very likely not play D1or D3 in college. The colleges that the Orange team members end up at, if they want to play in college, are for the most part a joke. The recruiting director basically pays lip service to the Orange team players and parents and only gives them real attention once the Blue team is almost fully recruited. If your girl is smart and has top grades the recruiting director still steers your DD to crappy colleges and then gets all upset when you say no. My DD is now a starter on the club team at her Ivy and she is happy with that result and we are too. Much better than being one of 40 on a D1 team at a college that she otherwise would never attend. Recruiting has gotten so competitive that Capital does not get the Orange team recruited like they used to.

I think this is a good post. Your DD should pick schools first and if lacrosse is an option for her at those schools then great. It is troubling when you see kids pick a school for lacrosse when you know they would not go there w/o lacrosse.

I have friends who have DDs who had similar experiences with Capital Orange. They didn’t get much attention from the club and those who committed primarily chose lacrosse over school. Playing club at your school of choice is a much better option.

Every year is different for clubs, but the one consistent is Capital Blue. Prides only real high school A team was their 2023 class. They played the second hardest schedule of all clubs their last year and competed in the highest brackets against the best teams. Capital Orange will not play in the top brackets or against the best teams. Pride A is not nearly as good as it was but it is a better option over Capital Orange.

Good insight, thanks. Sounds like Pride Black might be the second best option behind Cap Blue.

Especially if the best non Capital Blue players coordinate better than the last few years and funnel to Pride Black.

Agree with the poster, if Pride players stay together Pride will be a better option than Capital Orange. If Pride can get their recruiting act together and keep their own talent this is a solid option.

On the other hand if they get together and stay at Capital I do believe the Capital resources will prove beneficial to a solid Orange team. It is all about the behind the scenes and convincing girls to stick together which is tough to do when girls are coming from so many places.

Capital does not use its resources for Orange until Blue is recruited. That will never change. Never. By the time an Orange player and her parents are confronted with that reality it is too late. The recruiting landscape has changed and grown so much more competitive in the last few years as the sport has spread across the country and the colleges that used to recruit Orange now have so many more club teams from which to recruit. Orange is fine if you and your DD don’t care where she goes to college as long as she plays D1 or if your DD doesn’t want to play in college. But please do not think that a “solid Orange team” makes a difference because it does not.

This. There are a handful on each team who think they deserve better and won’t stop at any cost to get their DDs moved. Good luck with that.

You can't hope that "the Pride players should stay together"...recent history is clear that will mostly likely not happen. But, if Pride, parents and players (from remaining players from Pride, Stars, BLC, MC Elite, YMA and 3D), could better coordinate in July after the dust settles with Capital Blue, Pride could arguably be better than their current Red teams by getting that next group of 20 players in the area. Guessing Pride focuses so much energy on retaining their best players that Pride loses sight of the their next group of players in the program and Pride doesn't do enough to identify the area players that they could bring into their program after the Capital Blue dust settles.

How does Orange compare to Skywalker’s White, HEROS White, or M&D Red when it comes to recruiting?

They are all weak in this area. In MD however there are more options like MD United for A- players. Always better to switch clubs if you do not make the top team.

Capital Orange always sends 2-3 players to great or very good schools, sometimes better schools than the less academic blue players are committed to. Recent examples are Harvard, UVA, William&Mary, Washington&Lee, and Bucknell. The problem is the rest of the team who are serious students and have the grades and test scores to attend great or very good schools. It’s the later group who either have to settle for a less than college or settle for playing club or not at all. However being on Pride black would not necessarily have gotten them better choices as seen by Prides lack of success thus far.

This entire stream is garbage. Capital Orange parent here. A few girls on Orange in our year went Ivy and others went D1 - UVA and Va Tech to name a few - and many others went to elite academic D3 schools. None of these outcomes would have occurred w/ out Capital. Sure most blue players commited earlier - because they were better players. Sounds like your daughter was smart. Great. But not talented enough at lacrosse to earn a spot from an elite academic D1 school. That’s life.

They could have absolutely of had those outcomes at another DMV club on A team. The last 3 years Cap Orange recruiting has been average, so to answer the original question, don't take the chance, A team over Cap Orange.

Not sure you can compare Capital Orange of old to now. Just several years ago Capital was the only HS game in town, so players who didn’t make Blue had little choice but to go with the Orange team. And knowing Capital players from those years the club was very political. Some players that were on Orange should have been on Blue. And those players went on to play for good schools. Over the past several years Capital Orange has had mediocre success at best. If Pride can keep a solid nucleus of their rising HS class to stay together the Pride Black team is a better option IMO.

Years ago like ‘14-‘18 Cardinal was sometimes beating Capital blue and better than Capital Orange.

This stream is like the model UN for lacrosse clubs. If this then that….if they do this….then that….it used to be this…now it’s that…MOVE ON!

Have your player work hard. Make a team. Be happy with that team or move to Maryland and have this same conversation over B teams.

It’s Capital B or O or Pride black in VA. The rest are not upper alphabet (A, B or even C) teams. At least Pride Loudoun was at Presidents Cup.
