If you could live anywhere in the US...

OP, some of the crazies here just HATE Florida because people fed up with left wing politics fled DC and other places for Florida. They're livid that people would rather live there even though DeSantis is Governor, so they come here to spread lies. Florida has lots of real greenery - not astroturf. There are areas with lots of fun stuff to do and access to cultural events. Walkable with views of lakes and greenery the whole year. You can get a really nice 1 BR apartment for $1,800 or spend even less.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Plenty of natural beauty to be sure, but every time we visit Colorado from the East Coast we are struck by how brown and dry it is.

It is very brown, as is most of the west coast compared to the east coast. Even places like Oregon or Washington are, imo, much browner than here on the east coast.

Washington and Oregon are brown on the east side of the Cascades. West of the mountains it is always green and lush. I lived in Seattle for a few years and the one benefit from the constant drizzle for nine months, is that there were always flowers and lush green trees, and it always smelled so fresh. But yes, drive over the Cascades, and it's almost desert-like.

If I really wanted greenery, perhaps somewhere in the midwest. Like Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota.

I love all 4 seasons and dislike crappy food, heat, and Reps, so for me the Northeast or the Pacific Northwest. There is a reason why those states are the most expensive in the Union. Quality is pricey.

I think the budget limits things, $1800 a month.

The worst. Anywhere but Florida. Anywhere but the South. Europe > the south.

Full with ultra-MAGA.

+1 Lots of lush, tropical foliage. Pick a neighborhood in Orlando or Winter Park that's walkable to stuff to do and you can walk and hang out outdoors year-round. Downtown Orlando, Thornton Park, Delaney Park, near Park Ave in Winter Park, Winter Park Village in Winter Park, etc. OP, is there anything you want besides walkable and some greenery?

Ew, astroturf USA. Doubt that's what the OP meant. If they wanted to live near the ocean I bet they would have specified

Uh no. There is way more astroturf in the northeast and mid Atlantic. I work in the astroturf business. Astroturf is sold in areas with harsh winters.

Florida has a lot of hidden gems but you have to scout around for them.[/quote]

Can you please share of the hidden gems. We are considering a move to Florida in about 3 years.

That part of Florida is very transient, not much feeling of a community.
