Chantilly sux.

Any details on that? My ds is going to try out for Southwestern and Chantilly. Any intel on those two leagues would be appreciated. Or should we look to be an exception on another team?

What age? Southwestern is SYA, right?

The board is terrible over at CYA. They have a large pool of kids residing in the zip codes they have to choose from, but can’t keep the talented ones because the coaches don’t get the support they need. You may end on a team with the coaches sons friends and on a daddyball team. The younger teams could be decent because they have such a large talent pool to choose from, but as they get older and see what the organization is about they bail.

LOL! The CYA Hater has shown up.

Those are all facts.

Anonymous wrote:Its grade based but they have max ages listed on their website. Eg, you cant play in 8th if you turned 15 by Sept 1.

That’s the universal rule throughout grade based basketball.

I honestly believe you. No one would have that much zeal for posting and reposting if it was fake.

I only posted once. I just happened to have a little bit on insight on the subject since I have a son who played CYA a couple seasons and everyone says the same thing about CYA. I’ve observed, heard, read things, and read things and was just sharing what I know about the topic. If you aren’t interested in my commentary, can type CYA in the dcum search bar. Haven’t seen as many complaints about any similar sized local rec leagues.

This. My DS played in summer league for a FCYBL team out of our zip code. The coaches are holding a spot for him, hoping he will rejoin rather than stay with a team in our zip code. Also, another coach on one of the opposing teams "recruited" DS after a game to ask him to play with his opposing team in the fall under an exception.

FYI, DS is short but an experienced AAU player.

This is kinda ballsy . The coach just walked up to your family after the game and...talked you up? Right in front of his existing coach?

PP here... Yes, he ran up to us after the game but outside of the gym in the crowded hallway, gave DH his business card, and complimented DS ball handling while asking him to consider going to his team. We found it humorous as DS is only 11!

I had an 11 yo play in the stars league this summer. Now I am sitting thinking of which 6th grade teams had a PG who would inspire a coach to embarass himself like that. Was it in the stars or the st james league?

You guys find this funny, but some people take basketball more serious than others. Opportunity is nothing to laugh about.

The opportunity to play for one fcybl team over another? We are serious about basketball in our house but this coach just sounds so cringey.

Yes, the Division One team coach from that age group was a clueless young guy who screamed at the kids. Avoid.

New coach this year. Better than the young guy you mentioned.

Lol... 95% of volunteer coaches has a kid or family on his team. So it is what is.😅🤣

I have heard that on the boys' side, the A teams are generally mostly kids who play AAU on the Nova Cavs, and very hard to make.

Well the coach also coaches the nova cavs so there may be some truth, but if your kid is good enough they will take him. The coach will probably also try to recruit him to the nova cavs.

What age group? Bc the 5th (now 6th grade) Nova Cavs coach has several Vienna players he will coach (or coached last year) this winter
