If you want to drop quickly stop all alcohol and refined sugar. This is extremely difficult for me but works quickly to reduce water weight, which is normally about 5 lbs for me. |
I eat maybe 500 calories a day. I've never had much of an appetite. |
I did a metabolism /dexa test. I burn 987 cal/day for bmr. With activity and exercise it’s around 1400, on average.. I’m 5’2” 122 and age 52. |

I eat 2200 a day and gained 15 lbs, because I was underweight. I’d like to gain 4-5 more.
I’m experimenting with not tracking calories any longer yet I worry I don’t eat enough without tracking. I find it hard to reach 2300 so I’m doing my best to eat snacks like a glass of soy milk, a banana, etc between meals. I think I burn about 400 or so. Mostly I walk or lift weights. |
I was similar and ate very little. I didn’t even realize how little I was eating. Well, doing this gave me osteoporosis. If you don’t eat enough, your body will take nutrients from your bones. A broken hip is bad. Google ARFID and see if it sounds like you. |
It depends on body composition. If you have a huge stomach at such a low weight most likely you have very little muscle mass. I am 5’6” 145lbs and a size 4. I most certainly do not have a huge stomach. |
This thread makes me hungry. I maintain at 2500 calories. But I have plenty of muscle, I lift 4-5 days a week and get 10-15k steps every day. My lifting definitely gets better when I am heavier, so if like PP I cared mostly about my athletic performance, I would want to be 10lbs heavier not lighter, but I am vain too so I keep myself fairly lean. |
Wow I did one for a postpartum study and was 1 year post 34yo F at 5'3 and mine was 1767 Resting Metabolic Rate |
46. 5’1. I burn about 1300. I try to eat about that, sometimes less, sometimes more. I can’t really up my cal burn due to chronic neck issues from an injury. |
That's a lot! What do you do during the day that you actually burn 1300 calories? Not saying I don't believe you, just curious of your daily life style. |
42 years old male, 5'11 and 170lbs with 14% body fat. I played D1 soccer in college but switched over to working out in the gym and swimming everyday at Equinox. I swim for an hour and work out in the gym seven days a week. My diet is plant-based but I do eat fish every day. My calories intake is about 3,400 per day. I work remotely for the Federal gov. so I just leave for the gym in the middle of the day to work out, having been doing this for the past five years. |
Too many calories, not enough burn. Story of my life! |
However many I eat must be the same that I burn since my weight doesn’t change |
I walk for an hour most days. I do strength training three times a week. I can’t really do much else because of my neck. If I’ve had a string of good days I might jog a little during the walks. I do other things like cleaning and cooking, which do burn some calories. |
