They collect bacteria like crazy. |
Lol. There is nothing fun or joyful about those ridiculous nails |
Agree. However, I have a college-aged daughter who loves her acrylics and pays for them herself. They're not very long and always look pretty. I guess I'm just not up for the maintenance and cost for myself. At least she doesn't wear fake eyelashes! ![]() |
most younger ladies with fake nails aren't getting long fake nails unless they are those long pointy ones or the coffin ones. most of the ones i know just get fairly short regular nails in a french tip or a fun color. |
Um, no... that is very much a tacky example. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
*yawn* Are those even fake? They just look like regular nails. What's the point? |
I honestly think it depends on the person. Some people do it purely for fun, to add a splash of color or interest to their look, the same way someone might get a really fun purse or hair clip or shoes or whatever. Yes, they are impractical, but only for the wearer so who cares.
I only think they are tacky when they are part of an ultra “done” look geared towards making the wearer look rich or “classy”. Then they are tacky. You can’t wear fake nails seriously— they are not serious! It’s like wearing temporary tattoos or whimsical hair colors very seriously— you just seem silly and embarrassing. But if it’s just because it makes you happy or brightens up your day? You do you. |
My teen gets acrylics occasionally and will get colorful designs on her nails. She loves it. I get gel polish in a neutral shade, I like that. I don’t see any harm in doing whatever makes you happy with your own appearance. |
Tacky. Just do gel nails and your natural nails will grow and look better than acrylic. |
This. |
None of these are tacky. One could argue that they are somewhat boring. What one person thinks is tacky, another person who likes color and flair will think is boring. I too have been a "short-nailed lady" for most of my life, not by choice but by need. The few times I opened up to embrace flair, decoration, and color, I LOVED it! It's a ton of work to maintain everyday, but I'd do it in a heartbeat if it wouldn't take away time and resources from my kids. The color and flair of life is a spice we all need at times; can we embrace differences rather than shame them? |
These just look lip dip powder on natural nails. |
This! Next time I go to the nail salon I think I'll get some blingy acrylics, just to stress people like OP out. |
Many could argue that fashion trends are more important to the young. Youth is heralded as a prime commodity in the fashion world. The nails some would consider tacky are also seen as couture in some circles. Google Vouge nails and each season, many of the looks are the most bedazzled and design/color/trinket heavy looks... ..to each his/her/their own. Breadcrumbs... google history of nail art |
Fake nails/eyelashes/tans aren’t meant to convey classiness. They’re supposed to look fun and sexy. Believe it or not, not everyone is obsessed with looking “classy” all the time. |
