VA acceptance email

Anonymous
Original question is still unanswered. Did anyone receive any emails on acceptance in VA this year? When can we expect the acceptance email and orientation? If your answer is to call or hang tight, please save that time for yourself. If you are going to online bully anyone asking these questions. Please refrain.

What about students who have attended the VA? Don't they have to submit the application?

Review the application starting March 1 for initial enrollment and staffing purposes. I wonder why this work in reverse?

Sheesh. It's literally in the first paragraph: "The Montgomery Virtual Academy, a full-time virtual learning program for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12, is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. Students interested in the program are required to apply for admission and must be approved to participate. (Students currently enrolled in the Virtual Academy do not need to reapply)"

This is misleading. Do you know whether they asked current students to apply?

What is your agenda? Your posts make zero sense. It’s not misleading at all. .

Please note: To avoid marked absences, students must attend their home school until they receive an acceptance email, a class schedule, and a start date from the Virtual Academy.”

So it doesn’t sound like it’s anything to worry about if you’re a new enrollee and haven’t heard yet. Even if you haven’t heard by the time school starts, you may still be admitted. Just proceed under the assumption you’ll get it eventually, I guess, once they get all the classes balanced and teachers assigned.

Also, they have a K-5 supply list up now, too.

marked absences vs. COVID. kids with health need will prefer absences if email is not received in time. I have to wonder what kind of planning and preparation is this?

I don't understand your comments. MCPS was safe for your kids to be in person last year, so why is it different this year. They said they'd let people know in August. They have to firm up who is returning, how many slots they have, staffing, etc. Then, if there is not enough space, they have a waitlist as they did last year. If you child has medical issues, submit documentation.

They screwed up last year not accepting many kids in VA and then 6 months later calling them up to join VA. Obviously the parents rejected as mask mandate was in place. This year, COVID is still in circulation but no mask mandate. How effective will the booster from 6 months ago be? No one knows. Risk reward does not make any sense

They did not screw up. They had 3000 slots and took the priority families who submitted medical paperwork. If you failed to apply within the specified time or not provide medical documentation, that is on you, not them. But, you clearly had no issue sending your kids a year ago so why the drama now? Talk to the BOE for more funding for more slots. I suspect that some families (including us) who hoped to go back this fall are choosing to stay in VA because of the reasons you are saying and more. Some of us planned to wait till MCPS made their announcement on what fall will look like.

And, as families transitioned out to in person, they took in more students to fill those spots.

Where is the transparency in the process? What criteria do they use to accept or reject VA applicants? how do you know? and when will you know? Are they treating all students equally or give preference to certain group based on their politics?

Give them a call and ask them. Simple. They went by the application order and priority. Those with medical documentation got priority. They have a huge range of students so I don't think they are rejecting anyone. If you want more students admitted, talk to the BOE for more funding.

No one picks up the phone calls there. How does MCPS set the order and priority? does anyone know? What do you mean by "range" of students?
What is BOE and how do you talk to them?

You cannot be a part of MCPS if you are asking these questions. You should know what the BOE is.

Yes, they pick up the phone. I've called multiple times and gone in person. Stop making up lies.

Assuming someone to know all the abbreviations used on DCUM is little ignorant. Also why is that for every question, some one (perhaps paid public relations) asks everyone to make a phone call? Why not just stay off the thread if you do not have any information? Why not allow other parents to provide information that they have? Why do you distract and divert conversations when someone is asking questions?

Time to grow up. No paid pr. VA is underfunded. Where would it get the money? If you have a question about your child, you call or email. No one. Can abwser your question here except if you give us your child’s name to call for you. If you are part of mcps you know the one boe or look it up n

Students currently enrolled in the Virtual Academy (the “current students” in your question) do not need to reapply. So no, they did not ask them to apply. Any student attended the VA at the end of last school year will be automatically enrolled in the VA this year. So those people will automatically be notified when the orientation date has been set, because they’re already enrolled.

And, as per multiple posts above, new applicants (those who were not attending the VA at the end of last school year) will be notified in August about the status of their application. At that time, those who were accepted will be notified about the orientation.

You make it sound so easy! I waded through 3 pages of this discussion for this?

“Some on DCUM say” is irrelevant. Those are in person parents angry that their precious snowflakes have to share resources and money with the VA kids. Too bad.

BOE is not a “DCUM abbreviation.” Board of Education. Come ON.

Actually the home schools are getting the student funding and don’t provide anything and virtual academy is funded through other resources which is why they are short staffed and not equal to an in person school. There are no staffing shortages, just not enough funded slots for more staff.

But why are they funding homeschool for kids who attend VA? Wouldn't it be prudent to not ask people to enroll in homeschool if they apply to VA? What kind of crazy stuff is going on at MCPS now a days?
