Did anyone receive VA acceptance email? We receive all kinds of useless emails but there is nothing about our VA application. How do you know whether your DS is accepted in VA?
I see some parents are talking about VA orientation but we have not even heard about our application. Did anyone hear about your application for VA? |
| No one knows what is going on. Some on DCUM say that there may not be VA this year given the teacher shortages and other boat load of issues that is going on now. |

I don’t think teacher shortages are an issue as in one meeting they said most will return. We only know of one teacher not returning which is a shame as they were fantastic. There will be VA and it would be nice if previous poster would stop spreading lies. They are working on numbers and schedules now. They are short staffed but because of funding not willingness to work at the school. They have said they will try to take as many students as they can. They are funded for the next few years.
It’s probably a combination of issues from office staff as they don’t have enough to not knowing who is returning or not as some families are waiting to hear how mcps is handling Covid. Last year most of us did not hear till mid or late August but they were still trying to get things sorted out. Some did not hear till September. Wait till early August. I would call or email them to confirm your application. If there is a medical or other reason submit documentation. Or, resubmit your application. It’s best if it were not discussed here due to the negativity. There are a few Facebook groups that you can join that might be more helpful. |
Thank you for the details. Very helpful. |
| I work for the VA! Just so everyone knows..the VA is here and will be open. Please check ParentVue. They sent out an email correspondence about 10 or so days ago to those who applied for this coming school year. They are working on schedules now, so it's a good time to ask questions and get schedules finalized for Fall. Please reach out to all the admin staff (not sure if people are upper or lower school) and the school counselors. You will be sure to get a response! |
Are you asking parents who applied to VA to reach out to local school or VA admins? How do one reach out to VA staff? No emails so far on acceptance. There are many questions but not sure if accepted into VA or not so what is the use? |
VA admin. https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/virtualacademy And, the Facebook groups. There are two for the school and several grade level ones as well. |
Thank you! Upcoming events starts from August 29th 1st day of school. No timeline on any notifications to parents. |
They will send out information closer to school starting. I would guess it will be the week before. Look at last years videos and newsletters. I cannot imagine huge changes but they will probably make some based off feedback from parents and staff. At some point all the classes will show up in your child’s account. Teachers generally start posting them up when they return a few days before school starts. Last year they had staff available for class changes the first few weeks. It’s worrisome when you don’t know but you’ll get the information and reach out to the Facebook group and go to the pto meetings as the deans provide information and allow for questions. |
That's what normal people do. Reach out to actual people. |
I knew blaming it on teacher shortages was nonsense. Those posters are always trying to make mole hills in the mountains. |
VA doesn't have teacher shortages but they are not equally staffed and don't have the same amount of administrative staff as other schools. The school last year had over 3000 students so its equal to a high school with far fewer staff. Remember teachers and other folks don't work summers so its not a full staffing over the summer. From what I have heard, plenty of teachers willing to work in VA and when a teacher has left, they have gotten replacements within a reasonable amount of time. Teachers, though, are not doing the administrative work and not handling the admissions, scheduling or planning this summer. There is one dean and two administrators for each school of approx. 1500 students. Plus, a few other staff and that's it. Most of the teachers are returning next year to VA. Only a few are leaving but they did not have enough staff/teachers in the lower school. |

From the VA page on the MCPS site (click on the “Registration Open” headline a few items down):
“Students who have never attended the Virtual Academy, OR who did not finish the year at the Virtual Academy in June 2022 must submit an application through ParentVUE as early as possible. The Virtual Academy will send acceptance notifications to new enrollees in August 2022. Please note: To avoid marked absences, students must attend their home school until they receive an acceptance email, a class schedule, and a start date from the Virtual Academy.” So it doesn’t sound like it’s anything to worry about if you’re a new enrollee and haven’t heard yet. Even if you haven’t heard by the time school starts, you may still be admitted. Just proceed under the assumption you’ll get it eventually, I guess, once they get all the classes balanced and teachers assigned. Also, they have a K-5 supply list up now, too. |
So some kids will be teased with in-person school before being sucked back out into VA? |
Teaseed with? You realize that makes no sense. You assume everyone likes/wants/feels safe in person. |
