First Year Teacher UpdateL I created a wish list

She creates and shares the list. Now she is being questioned as to why she needs all the things on the list. I hope none of you are complaining about the teacher shortage.

I posted on the other thread that I would be willing to donate bins of legos if she’s local and wants to set up some sort of dummy email for me to contact. I still will do that.

I didn’t delete your comment, I don’t even know how to do that?

Users can’t. That’s done by Jeff, the moderator/owner of the site. He will allow dummy emails like “IamtheOpoftheteacherthread at gmail dot com,” but he won’t let people share names or other identifying information bc this is supposed to be anonymous.

In fairness I posted on the OG thread and told the teacher to relax there as well

You are obnoxious and unhelpful. OP doesn't need tired old teachers telling her not to care.

Whatevs not what I said but also not worth my summer to fight w cranky ppl good luck in year one OP

Hahahaha. My school gives us $50/year to buy everything we could possibly need, including supplies for our students like pencils, paper and crayons. They lock up office supplies so we don't steal them.

The amount of money available to teachers varies wildly by state, district and school.

NP

I work in Baltimore City schools and our copy paper is also locked in a closet. We only get one box for the first semester and one for the second. We get zero dollars from the PTA because we don't have a PTA! Once year, Target redid our school library and gave each teacher a $25 gift card. It was like Oprah had given everyone a free car or something. We were so excited because we never get anything. GL OP and pace yourself.

OP good luck setting up your classroom! I saw multiple rainbow-colored storage containers on your list. Can you opt for plain-colored ones instead?

Your other thread has a few posts about visual over-stimulation, most recently on page 6. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/75/1068978.page Cutting down on stimulation and clutter will especially make a difference for your students with ADHD.

Interesting however, that so many of the posts about over-stimulation came from teachers. Did it occur to you that their professional knowledge and lived experience - especially post-COVID - may be worth something? Maybe listen to the research and the expertise. If OP needs visual clutter and rainbows everywhere to create a warm and inviting classroom, she's got bigger problems.

Make a chart a week by copying a poem, a song, or whatever you’re using to teach. Laminate it and hang it after you’re done using it. The walls will be covered by conferences. If anyone complains about the lack of cuteness, point out that you want less distracting devot to help students focus.

Wanted to add that I know it’s not free, but it makes the most of your budget. If you can ask friends for empty baby wipe boxes; I used to use those for everything.

go on twitter and tweet your list with the hashtag clearthelist. I bet something might happen for prime day. Read through other people with your hashtag and drop your list with them as well.

If you need books for a classroom library - you can also do a wishlist on scholastic and share it in the same ways and its pretty easy.

Are you in a title 1 school. Share your lists with the PTA as well if there is some parent population that is able to support that way. For example I am in a gentrifying Title 1 so pretty much every donors choose that gets dropped to the PTA still gets filled pretty fast.
