First Year Teacher UpdateL I created a wish list

Anonymous
I took your advice and created an Amazon Wish list, I'm searching for the best sites/pages to share, if you know of any please feel free to share my link. I really appreciate all the suggestions and words of encouragement. My focus is not going to be on decorations, and just work on gathering the basic supplies and tools. I am keeping a close eye on marketplace and teacher pages as well. I plan on going to dollar tree for books bins and basket organizers. I read some articles on what are the best items to add to a wish a teacher wishlist, but if anyone else has any suggestions please let me know. I am taking over a retired teacher classroom, but unfortunately she sold or gave away most of her classroom supplies before I was hired and what little is left is not in great shape.

I tried to purchase something for you, but I don't think you've entered in your shipping address? I believe you can do so in a way that doesn't make the address public.

What grade are you teaching? Depending on that, I may suggest a class set of child size scissors.

As for the ink, will you have a printer? My school got rid of class printers a very long time ago.

Your school will give you basic office supplies and can give you money if you just ask them.

I will be teaching 3rd grade. Thanks for the suggestion of scissors, I am sure that is a common item that gets "lost" among this age group

I will be taking in my own personal printer, my teammate said that anything you want to print in color you will have to use your own printer for.

I would recommend adding a chime rather than a bell. I have both, but students tend to be accustomed to chimes because of responsive classrooms or other similar structures.

Unfortunately we are not given any money from the district to fund our classroom. We are provided desks and tables, a projector and laptop, some filing cabinets, and curriculum materials. I was shocked to learn this as well. I taught preschool in the Arlington area for almost 8 years and really took for granted how well the teachers were taken care of. I very rarely spent my own money for classroom supplies.

Honestly, it’s not worth it. Just don’t print in color. I say that as an experienced teacher and as a parent. Don’t bring your own printer. You can buy colored paper if you ever need color.

Hahahaha. My school gives us $50/year to buy everything we could possibly need, including supplies for our students like pencils, paper and crayons. They lock up office supplies so we don't steal them.

The amount of money available to teachers varies wildly by state, district and school.

I wouldn't buy anything. Let the district handle it. I've seen this before where they expect teachers to pay but if teachers don't then they miraculously come up with the money from the school.

I didn’t delete your comment, I don’t even know how to do that?

As a teacher I kinda agree with this. You won’t need much at the start of the year anyway, and you’ll be surprised at how much of what your ordering now you won’t need. The first week of school lots of vet teachers are decluttering their rooms and will be happy to give you this stuff. I know you have great intentions but take this vets advice to relax, deep breaths, and have a drink

It’s summer!

This comment is asinine.

Some of you have clearly never taught in underfunded schools.
