Perhaps not. |
| NBD. Californians do not care about stuff like this. |
| Doesn’t matter. Google and Meta etc know where you shop, go to get medical services, spend your money, etc. Bezos and Zuckerberg know it all! |
True. You can buy a list of gun owners that's 99.9% accurate from any of the Big Data marketing companies. They have your IP, physical address, type of phone you use, types of guns you own, the porn you enjoy, etc. It's all available for a price. |
| Any of you feel sorry for our sisters in California that escaped a violent relationship, and have a crazy ex who can now hunt them down at night, and finish them off? |
| This isn't a list of gun owners. This is a list of CCP holders. CCP holders are usually extremely responsible, upstanding citizens - former law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, military, people who transport cash and assets, or work in situations that expose them to harm. You have to pass numerous background checks in order to qualify. I'd be proud to be on this list. |
So now we can whittle the population down further to possibly unarmed, armed but questionable skills and armed but more likely to have skills (CCP). |
Au contraire. Domestic abuse victims are more likely to find their abusive partners on this list and can flag their name for law enforcement than the scenario you are suggesting. Red flag laws make gun owners frothing mad because they know a lot of gun owners are loose cannons to begin with. The people drawn to obsessing about firearms already have a couple loose screws. |

Criminals don’t typically apply for gun permits.
What utterly stupidity we have on this forum. |
What was stopping them before? |
Well, there is at least one positive. No one answered whether the CCP info has always been public or if it has been leaked. I may be wrong but I would hope that if it was not public there were good reasons. I’m just not keen on making everything public. Some people are waking up to health info being shared — this has been a concern for a LKNG time now. I mean grocery stores share this info (eg, condom purchase, prenatal type products). There is usually a pro and a con with sharing info, but i think more is less. |
So, would you want your private information released.... address, phone number, etc?
https://www.thecentersquare.com/california/california-leaks-personal-information-of-legal-gun-owners/article_48f8bffe-f724-11ec-831e-3b149171f78a.html If you think this was accidental, there is some ocean front property in Iowa I can sell you. Given recent SCOTUS rulings, it is far more likely some pissed off AG employee intentionally put this information out there. Now, you know why many firearms owners do not want the government keeping a list of registered firearms. |
It's not public. I just posted a link saying that SOME of the information could be accessed via a FOIA request. I am betting that would NOT include address and phone numbers and other very personal info. |
When domestic abuse victims escape their abusers, they don’t broadcast their new address. Duh. |
Basically. They just released a list of people that are armed. Criminals casing houses now have a list of spots to avoid. Any residence not on the list now has a bright green sign above it that says “best odds— come on in!” |
