Disappointed coming back to the U.S

The “new love” has faded and now l am as annoyed with the US as l was with my country of birth. The more you live somewhere, the more you get to know its problems. At first everything is new and unknown and interesting…it’s just like dating vs being married.

Country-wise, l am ready for “an AP”…but we got kids so need to wait till they are off somewhere (EU or here, they can do either based on dual citizenship) 😆 …. And my job opportunities are still better in US than EU at this time.

Don’t confuse the feelings you get while visiting a place with how it would be like to actually live there.

Yes, and wherever you go, there you are.

Yes the US is for work and Europe is for play.
I am disappointed that I still have to submit the stupid 24hr covid test though!

Really? True if you have money, but that’s true everywhere. The quality of life in the UK is much better for the average person. The US health care system is a mess. When I lived in the UK my high taxes went to universal health care. The NHS isn’t perfect, no. But if my cleaning lady got cancer, she would have been taken care of, not gone into debt for the rest of her life.

And…. I never once worried about mass shootings. That’s pretty high on my list of quality of life.

My comment about not complaining about the US while coveting an oppressive Muslim country, like UAE, was deleted. That’s so DCUM.

Really? I literally just came back from a stay in the UK, including London and more rural parts. Trying to get around was a nightmare. Heathrow is a nightmare. For the most part, the food is not great. I can get way better Indian food in the DC area than in London.

I’m not saying the US is better in every way - for obvious reasons I’m REALLY frustrated and sad this week - but I’m certainly not looking to leave for the UK. Lol.

NP. The US is a dump, and even Americans are starting to wake up to that fact. Of course Dubai is nicer. Of course Europe is better. These are not surprises to anyone who has been anywhere. Americans have traditionally been in denial mode, but even many of them can’t pretend anymore!

Maybe for men.

Dubai is all show and no substance. It's bloody hot and humid from April 15 - Novemeber 15 every year. Then you get 2 weeks of nice weather and then it is too cold. There are no seasons. Plus, Dubai is crazy expensive - you have to pay for visas and fines for everything, phone costs and heating/cooling bills are astronomical and everything requires lots of bureaucracy. It's a police state and they never miss an opportunity to fine you for something. There is literally nothing to do but go to bars, restaurants and beach clubs - which sounds great but after a while, they all seem the same and it is mind-numbing.

Most jobs that people do - unless you are a doctor of some sort or a teacher - are done very cheaply by eastern europeans or filipinas. The grass isn't greener.

No, you cannot get better Indian food in DC than in London. That’s patently false. Indian food in this area is horrible!

We have far more Indians in the dc metro area than London or the entire uk. If you haven’t found good Indian food, then I suspect you don’t know what good Indian food is.

You think British food is better? You honestly believe the Brits, the pioneers of colonialism that essentially raped countries around the world and proudly revere that history, to be sophisticated?

You’d prefer to live in a country where modern day slavery and human rights abuses are rampant? Where women are second class and where you would never be accepted as a citizen?
