She sees through Meghan exactly how I see her.

The Globe and Mail published a short excerpt from the book:

Meghan Markle had had it with Hollywood—big-time. She’d just turned twenty-nine. It had been seven years since she’d graduated from the prestigious Northwestern University in Chicago with a double major in theater and international studies, and instead of being hailed as the next Angelina Jolie, she was stuck in the professional equivalent of Nowhere-stan.

Four years after her General Hospital debut, she was still hoofing it as one of twenty-six “briefcase girls” wearing a shimmery sateen minidress and gold stilettos on the NBC game show Deal or No Deal. The girls—all beauties, but none as vividly gorgeous as number twenty-four, Meghan Markle, with her blazing smile—were required to descend a neon-lit staircase en masse at the opening of the show to a raucous soundtrack of pelvic-thrusting electronic guitar music, and chorus “Hi, Howie!” at the rollicking game show barker Howie Mandel. The girl who opens the winning silver briefcase holding anywhere between one cent and a million dollars gets the most airtime. “I would end up standing up there forever in these terribly uncomfortable and inexpensive five-inch heels just waiting for someone to pick my number so I could go and sit down,” she has said.

In the US we hardly hear anything about William and Kate. Are they more visible to the British?

I guess I don’t see why trying at something and failing is worth demonizing relentlessly. Yet, Kate having never developed a career at all and Camilla barely being a high school graduate are somehow superior.

You’ve touched the supreme foolishness on the head. These people will spin anything to make Meghan out to be the devil incarnate.

Meghan haters are simple and laser focused on hating this Black woman. That’s the beginning and end if it.

Someone explain to me what’s so horrid about working hard in your chosen profession? Is it considered posh to make fun of people who might not find immediate success in their jobs? Feels terribly outdated.

Yes, the British tabloids seem to criticize any royal adjacent person for having a real job. Years and years ago, when Kate was dating William and Cressida was dating Harry, there was a Daily Mail article comparing Kate's mom and Cressida's mom. Mind you, Cressida's mom is some type of Lady. Was married 7 times or so. Kate's mom was middle class, worked as a airline attendant before founding Party Pieces, only married once. Successful by American standards.

The article was so negative towards Kate's mom. Saying how Cressida's mom was so much better and would be a much better royal in-law. One of the points of criticism against Kate's mom was that she worked. One of the points of positiveness towards Cressida's mom was that she didn't work.

The whole system sounds warped and inhumane. No wonder the two of them left. And what a shame that instead of recognizing the injustice and extending a helping hand to Meghan, Carole and Kate and crew internalized that same classism and fed Meghan to the wolves.

Actually, as a Black woman who has to deal with a similar kind of judgment and criticism and hatred, I can assure you it is anything but a simple world.

I'm halfway through the article and Meghan sounds like everything we teach our kids to be: determined; hard-working; persistent; willing to sacrifice for her dream; etc. and she gets her big break via talent and hustle. What am I missing? Her blog also makes it seem like she was more thoughtful/astute than the average Hollywood wannabe.
