| Anyone else excited for this book? I have heard it is very anti Meghan but Tina Brown has always been such a good royal writer that I can’t pass up on reading it. |
WaPo has a review of it that said it was OTT pro-Cambridge, so if they said that I figured it must be really OTT |
True, but the same review said it was a really good book and that her knowledge of royal matters is second to none, so it makes me wonder what she found that made her so anti Meghan. |
| Isn’t Tina Brown a good friend of Prince Charles? |
| What does OTT mean? |
| I’ve ordered it and look forward to reading. I read the WP review and didn’t get the takeaway that it’s OTT pro-Cambridge. Perhaps this was stated and I missed or forgot it. |
| In WaPo’s words Tina Brown has apparently taken a sledgehammer to the Sussexes, Meghan in particular. |
Over the top |
| Didn't the post article point out rampant racism in the book? |
| It's very, very clear that Tina Brown has an extreme vendetta against Meghan Markle. No human being is as one-dimensionally and nakedly evil as Tina and the rest of the pro-royal tabloid courtiers make Meghan out to be. |
A lot of her sources are "palace insiders" so what do you expect? It will be similar to the tabloids. Plus Brown's own interest lies in preserving her relationship with the BRF. I read the except in the Post, and there was really nothing new in it. Usually excerpts that WaPo prints ahead of a book's release contain bombshells or juicy anecdotes, and there was nothing like that in the article, which surprised me. I am on the library waitlist for it, so we'll see. |
Did you read The Diana Chronicles? I wouldn’t say she focused on “preserving her relationship” with the BRF in that one. I too am on the library waitlist so we’ll see. I actually really don’t like Meghan Markle very much, but I defend her on here vociferously because I think the criticisms leveled at her are, by turns, racist, misogynist and completely bat crap crazy. |
Yes, but. https://www.washingtonpost.com/books/2022/04/23/meghan-markle-royal-family-book-tina-brown/ |
| I read the excerpt in Vanity Fair. It was interesting but questionable. Apparently everything Diana did with Dodi was an attempt to make her "real boyfriend" (a Pakistani surgeon) jealous. She was not interested in Dodi in any real way. Apparently, Diana was intensely manipulative and media savvy and also went around asking the press if her breasts were big enough. It was weird reading. |

Just read Brothers and Wives. It was surprising (to me) that Diana talked to William (age 13-14?) about her dating life. Yikes. Also, William and Harry were big drinkers/parties at a young age. I blame Charles’ lack of interest for that. Maybe this book will hold you over until The Palace Papers arrives.
As an aside, I am currently reading a novel called The Paper Palace. Totally different kind of book. |
