| I’m 5’5 and bounce around between 123-127. This is the perfect spot for for vanity sake. I’m a size 2-4, thin but athletic with thicker thighs and hips, thin waist, zero breast! This weight takes some discipline to maintain. 135 lbs is still a good weight for if I “let myself go” that seems to be wear I settle if I eat whatever I want whenever, size 6ish |

Hmmm. I'm a 40s Asian female who is 5'4" with very fine bones, and at 118lbs, I don't feel comfortable. This is what I weigh right now. I used to be 105, which was pretty good. Anywhere up to 110 would make me feel healthier, I think. But all this is very personal, OP. You have to do what you feel is best for you. |
This is the first time I have ever heard this extremely disordered take on what a woman should weigh. I am 5-2 and weigh 115-120 depending on the week. Guess I better get on a diet! |
What’s disordered about it? I’m the pp that cited the rule. I’m not underweight or anything. I wear a size 2-4. I’m strong and eat healthfully. Nothing wrong with a lighter bmi in the healthy range, rather than aiming for average, especially if you have a small frame. My wrists and rib cage are very tiny, I need a 28F bra (I’m still nursing a toddler so I’m sure that cup size will shrink though). |
+1. Also, 5'2" PP who is calling this rule "extremely disordered": did you maybe misunderstand? Because at 5'2" and 115, you accord with the rule exactly. |
It isn’t disordered. This is what Drs have said for decades. This rule will always result in a normal/heathy bmi as well. Drs don’t bring it up anymore since it just isn’t a realistic goal anymore for most women. They just want their patients to be not obese- that is the new goal |
I'm 5' and would have to starve myself or be critically ill to weigh 100-105 lbs, but I still manage to be a very fit size 2 at 115 lbs. That said, I do not think it's crazy to assume a lot of women between 5'0 and 5'4 are very small framed and should be aiming for the lower end of the weight range more in line with the 5'/100 lb rule. Nor is it crazy to make adjustments based on your specific frame and musculature. |
| 105-115 |
I think age would play a factor in this as well. Generally speaking, the BMI scale of 19-24 would put you at a range of 110-140. However, if you have a lot of muscle you could potentially go over that. I wouldn't advise a woman over 40 going below 110 at that height. |
Wow, I would fit into less than a standard zero with that methodology. I am 5 feet 7 inches, and I am a size 2 at 150. I am very muscular though. |
| Take in to account: age, frame, body type muscle etc DO NOT fixate on weight. Instead look at how your clothes fit and your measurements. Eat a healthy diet, do strength training, yoga or pilates and some form of cardio. A good weight for someone else might not be right for you. |
This was question as a women who is 5'4? Why did you feel the need to comment? |
| I'm 5'4" but with a big frame -- big wrists, wide shoulders, hipbones, and ribcage (I fit best in a 38A, hard to find) -- and I look thin at 140 wearing a size 8. Under 135 I can wear a 6 but my face starts looking gaunt. Maybe my bones weigh a crazy amount, even doctors are surprised at my appearance vs. the number on the scale. I don't exercise currently, but I build muscle quickly and if I really toned up I would just be 140 wearing a size 6. Maybe I am an exception but noting that body type matters. |
| I'm 5'4 and 115 with a medium frame (broad shoulders, 36A bra). I have toned abs, big arms and legs for my size, no butt (I'm trying) and a bony torso. I definitely have no desire to be thinner. My weight seems to hold pretty steady even though I eat a lot compared to pretty much every woman I know who is around my size. I would be fine with weighing up to 120. (I was in a size 12 not too long ago and I am not replacing my clothes again!) |
| I am around 140 and feel great and DH definitely likes my body. |
