Preschool and Daycare Discussion
No, I'm not kidding. I'm also not going to engage you any further on this issue. It sounds like OP is taking the right steps to move her infant and hopefully she'll have a lot better luck. If she decides to report it to DSS, I'm sure they'll give the complaint the amount of attention it warrants. |
| OP, call the state. They will investigate, and either find a problem, or not. Either way, you've done your part in ensuring that the standard of care is met. The rest is up to VA. |
You wash your hands after using the restroom, do you not? So you wouldn't want to bring that tiny little bit of yuck out of the restroom, but a poo-covered baby is no big deal. Even after seeing the VA law PP posted, which is clearly being violated by this daycare, your position is OP worries about her baby and best of luck to the rest of them. Imagine for a moment if your child got sick at a daycare where previous parents knew there was a serious cleanliness problem and said nothing. |

The provider needs to be reported for this. It is a violation and the other children need to be protected from this continuing. I dont know what is wrong with the person who thinks it is not such a big deal, but it is. My first reaction to a child covered in poop would be ewwww gross. Much the same as the analogy of the person who goes to the bathroom and wouldnt wash their hands
OP Where are you located? I have space in my childcare home and would be happy to help temporarily or permanently. |
| If the provider can't even manage to keep a baby clean and refuses to move up a diaper size, then it is doubtful she is measuring up in other aspects of the child's care. I am sure a bald spot is normal on infants - mine didn't have one, but she was held a lot, but I wouldn't expect it to develop after only a couple of weeks. |
| 11:59 sounds perfectly sane and normal to me. Why are you picking a fight and getting personal, 13:58? |
Not the PP you're referring to, but I think some of us were a little... wowed by 11:50's big shrug and assertion that a baby coming home repeatedly with poop all over her isn't really such a big deal and that reporting this provider is "over dramatic." I happen to agree that it's, at a minimum, unsanitary and worth a call to the state. |
Did you even read that poster's original post? Here it is.
Yeah, totally sounds like she's just shrugging it off. |
I'm calling you on this post. Show me exactly where any PP in this thread said "a baby coming home repeatedly with poop all over her isn't really such a big deal." Show me that. Cut and paste the post you are referring to. If you can't show it (and I know you can't, because IT IS NOT THERE), go find something else to do with your time other than try to pick fights and call people names for no good reason whatsoever. |
|
the above is the "big shrug" that PPs are referring to along with:
|
Sorry, I don't read it the same way you do. This is a really sane view. And sorry . . . it does not say "It is totally fine that the baby is covered in poop! Stop worrying." The post clearly says the provider is wrong, the OP should withdraw her child. Stop trying to create drama. Honestly . . . if you call DSS, they will accept the report. They may or may not send someone to investigate. Unless the children are actively covered in poop, they will tell the provider to make sure she is appropriately wiping the children. They will not shut her down on the spot because of an allegation. If they do happen to see some poop on the kids, they will cite her and it will go in her records, and they'll probably check up on her again. But it isn't a life or death situation, because in those situations they DO pull licenses immediately for the safety of the children. You all are getting pretty spun up over something that, while yes, it is a violation, it really isn't that big of deal in the grand scheme of violations. |
Are you saying DSS won't give it the amount of attention it warrants? |
Huh? Where did I call names? I stand by my opinion. The tone of her post was that we were being "over dramatic," this was "not a life or death situation," and thus, we were blowing it way out proportion. I strongly disagree. A number of posters suggested that OP call the licensing authorities. That's it. It wasn't like we told her to burn the place down. |
No. I'm still waiting for you to show me a post where PP said "a baby coming home repeatedly with poop all over her isn't really such a big deal." That is what you accused PP of saying. Stop trying to shift the debate to "well, she really just hurt my feelings with her tone." You accused PP of saying something she never said. You are wrong. |
