Tbh, I feel like I see just as many interracial families and friends of different races as I did in MoCo. Granted, we are zoned for UHS, so I don't know much about the area that borders PA.

But this really is a wonderful community

You’re in Urbana. It is very different from central, western and northern FredCo. Anything zoned for Urbana is MoCo light.

Gimme a break. Drive down 75 or 80 and tell me that's anything like MoCo.

It's more like Damascus and Poolesville are more like FredCo.

But having lived in MoCo for 15 years, and then moved to FredCo a few years ago, its night and day different.

- People are nicer
- People are less competitive
- SO MUCH LESS VIRTUAL SIGNALLING

If you think the Urbana area is anythng like Takoma Park, Bethesda, Rockville, or SS, you haven't been to those areas in a long time.

Definitely not Takoma Park or SS (these places are more urban). But there are tons of other places in MoCo than those areas and the reality is practically half of Urbana is from MoCo. People who were nice in MoCo will be nice in Urbana; and people who were jerks in MoCo will be jerks in Urbana.

Well, Urbana and "zoned for Urbana" are 2 different things.

Yes, urbana proper is just a better version of Clarksburg.

But "zoned for Urbana" brings you out into the surrounding farmlands. There's still a strong country/hunting/conservative vibe in the 'zoned for Urbana'

The same vibe exists in Poolesville, Damascus, Laytonsville, and Boyds; all are in MoCo.

Damascus, Pooleville, Clarksburg, Boyds, and Hyattstown are all still Montgomery County and very similar to parts of southern FredCo.

Rockville, Bethesda, and Takoma are not comparable to any part of FredCo, not even Urbana, but you knew that.

The point is Urbana, and yes surrounding feeder areas, are A LOT more liberal and diverse than the rest of Fred Co.

Southern Frederick is different from other parts of the county.

I would disagree that there are no comparable areas to bethesda in frederick county. I live in braddock heights, which borders middletown, about 15 minutes west of Urbana (kids here attend middletown schools) and it is progressive and creative and the architecture is unique, many large homes built in the early 20th century and the area is largely an educated one. I have several neighbors from Bethesda, the New York area and the DC area. As for the racial incidents in middletown, they were horrible and a deep pain and embrassment but do not unilaterally define the community. A reminder that Frederick county continues to now be increasingly democratic and the number of registered democrats exceeds Republicans and has been trending this way for several years. We are not all ignorant racists, thank you. And we are not all from here originally and many of us are working to change the political climate and have been for years.

Well, it might be close in ideology to bethesda, but the similarities end there. Bethesda is a soulless downtown of non-descript buildings filled with yuppies or social justice warriors.

Middletown is a charming exburb filled with open minded families.

Urbana is quite similar to North Potomac and some parts of Gaithersburg like the Kentlands, especially the Villages of Urbana area. Some of the areas feeding to Urbana like Clarksburg have portions in both Frederick and Montgomery County. So yeah, it is pretty accurate to say that Urbana is MoCo lite. Also, a lot of my high school classmates have bought up there because they are priced out of where we were raised.

Damascus actually feels more conservative, Trumpy, and rural than Urbana funnily enough.

NP.

True. We were looking there prior to buying in Frederick county and we were somewhat surprised.

Definitely moreso than the Villages of Urbana. But the minute you get outside the development in the Villages, it's all the same.

Plus, a lot of people in that area are actually from the Damascus/Mt Airy area. Once you get involved in sports, you see that its the same Damascus type of Dad; they just moved a few minutes north/west

Same Damascus type mom too- was probably a high school cheerleader, now coaching a youth cheer team. You'll see. Not saying it's bad but the reality is a lot of folks who live in Urbana are from Damascus/Clarksburg/Mt. Airy.

Yup, and you just have to learn to accept the bad with the good.

It's a tight knit community of families that are willing to help/support each other. But also lots of jerk Dads that take their kids sports careers WAY too seriously.
