Linganore is 83.4% white, 2.4% black, and 1.7% Asian. Landsdale community which is pretty diverse feeds into it but a lot of the families there currently have young kids who are still at elementary school. At some point, Linganore will slowly become a bit more diverse but for the most part, the kids attending that high school are outside of Landsdale, meaning it will still be majority white.. and very Republican given the communities they are coming from.

Hmm, I thought Landsdale fed into Urbana? Is that a recent change?

Yes, since the 2020-2021 school year when they reassigned the boundaries between Urbana, Linganore, and Oakdale. A lot of people don't know that since I believe real Estate sites like redfin still show homes in Landsdale assigned to Urbana.

That’s quite a bus ride up to Linganore. But I’m not surprised. They totally overbuilt that area and let the developers shun their responsibilities wrt schools.

Yeah, that place is pretty bad. On top of your neighbors like Urbana, but no benefit/walkability of Urbana.

That's why we decided to look elsewhere. The community might be nice but when you get out of it, you have to drive on 10-15 minutes of winding, dark roads through farmland before you get to civilization.

Yeah. We also looked (and bid on, but lost) on a house near by in the Windsor Knolls division, which has the same drawback, but at least you don't feel like you're on top of your neighbhors, and there is some maturity to the neighborhood

DP- Windsor Knolls also feeds into Urbana HS which to me is a plus.

We are considering a move from Howard County to Frederick. We're mostly looking in the Monrovia (Landsdale community) or New Market, Ijamsville areas. I am hoping someone on here may live in the area and can share your experiences with the schools. Many think we're silly for leaving HoCo but I'm looking for a different vibe for our family and we're quickly getting priced out of SFH here. I'm trying to do as much research as possible before we make a decision. We're looking for good schools. I'm not looking for best of the best. I want my children to be in a supportive environment where teachers care about them. I understand this area may not be as diverse as Howard County but we're looking for a school and community where people are accepting of all types of people. I read a prior post about someone saying she would never send her child to Green Valley ES or Windsor Knolls because her AA child wouldn't be accepted. Is that true of this area or is that just one poster's feelings?

If you have children in the schools in these areas, how do you like them? I'd love to know what you DON'T like about the schools too.

Thank you for any information you can share.

We are a family of color living in New Market for 3 years. The Lake Linganore area has a few traces of racism but they are overwhelmingly drowned out by liberals who are welcoming of all. I have some of the loveliest neighbors! Urbana and my area are ideal choices but north into the county can range from unpredictable to undesirable. Urbana and Oakdale schools are good choices BUT they are very crowded. I don’t know how that compares to Howard County but you can gauge that from FCPS website data. Good luck with your search!

Be aware that Linganore HS in my opinion is not a good place for black students. Racism is still very well alive there and the black kids don't feel like they have a voice. There are staff who don't know how to teach students from diverse backgrounds and some are even helping perpetuate racism. I say this as someone who was going to move there but heard horror stories from multiple families. They all hope it will get better in time, as one of the feeder elementary schools is more diverse, but if like me, you have a HS kid or one in a few years, I would not risk it.

I'm the poster you are responding to....I have heard the stories about Linganore HS. We are zoned for Oakdale HS which seems to be a little more diverse.

Agree. Oakdale and Urbana are the 2 FCPS high schools I would feel comfortable sending my kids to.

As a recent transplant to FredCo, I'll say that the perception is WAY off.

Tbh, I feel like I see just as many interracial families and friends of different races as I did in MoCo. Granted, we are zoned for UHS, so I don't know much about the area that borders PA.

But this really is a wonderful community

Urbana is practically MoCo. The other areas are much different.

It's really not. It's kinda what MoCo was 20 years ago, maybe.

But not MoCo as it is today
