This variant is incredibly contagious. If wearing masks protects our girls and community members such as teachers with immune weaknesses then that is the least we can do.

As far as I have heard, all local Private schools are stepping up COVID precautions. DMV is a global hot spot.

I do hope wearing masks outside will not be necessary in a few weeks though.

“Many people are saying…”

BS. I know 20 people who were triple vaxxed and got covid and it was a cold.

It may have been similar to a cold but it was not a cold.

Colds ARE coronaviruses, nimrod.

My friends said they were wiped out for days

We could not get get seen before new year for non COVID medical issue as all the urgent care places we tried were not taking walk ins as they had so many patients .

And a fully Vaccinated 14 year old dd of friend became really sick.

It may be like a cold for many but nonetheless local hospitals are overwhelmed so a sizable Minority are becoming sick. Also we do not yet know whether they will develop long haul COVID as did many people with Delta who had mild Symptoms initially.

Local hospitals are not overwhelmed. They are understaffed to begin with and people who test positive start thinking they’re dying and show up to the ER with no symptoms are very late symptoms clogging up the ERs if they’re even clogged for people who are actually really sick.

OP: she may find KF94 (also allowed) masks more comfortable. My daughter and her friends have been wearing a boat style KF94 mask by Botn since August and find them very comfortable. Get suggestions from friends. There are lots of options out there.

The hospitals themselves are reporting that they are overwhelmed. Since they are the ones actually carrying out this important medical work, we should defer to their opinion.

We could not get medical attention over the break and our family practice was closed. They also (both doctors and nurses at our regular clinic) said that they are exhausted and have never been so busy and had to have a break. I completely Understand but it is quite scary when you cannot find access to medical help when it is needed.

If wearing masks helps to slow this train down to where health systems can manage it then we should all do our part.

Again with trolls trying to push people away from the safest masks and protocols?!?!?!

My kids have been in N95s since the beginning of the pandemic. They're way more comfortable than fabric ones. Most other families we know feel the same way. Plenty of school and organizations require such masks and no one has had any adverse effects.

As a research scientist, I can also tell you that these masks are worn regularly in research labs, have been for decades, with no adverse effects.

Just stop.

They cause a lot of headaches and facial problems. YOU stop.

Hahahaha

Closing schools led to mental health crisis in adolescents.
Wearing K95s, etc., reduce rate of community spread and thus help to keep schools open.
Open schools lead to better emotional health among teens.

Wear the damn masks. This is just temporary. Deal.

They aren’t allowed to wear blue paper surgical masks?

honestly I would just send them with a cloth mask and tell the school to get over it.

We are blessed at SR to have an amazing panel of extremely well qualified and experienced medical research and practitioner professionals guiding the school’s COVID Policy decisions. They are thoughtful, prudent and trying to minimize disruption to our girls and the school community. I trust their judgment, and this is just temporary.

This thread has really derailed. First, who cares about hospital rules in some other states? MoCo overall has the highest vaccination rate of any large county in the US. It's likely equally high for hospital staff, so the issue here is likely not that a bunch of hospital workers are home due to not being vaxed.

https://governor.maryland.gov/2022/01/04/governor-hogan-declares-30-day-state-of-emergency-mobilizes-1000-members-of-maryland-national-guard-to-respond-to-covid-19-surge/

Covid Hospitalizations in MD are up to over 3,000 which is 500% higher than 7 weeks ago, and higher than any previous peak.

Why do you think this is just temporary? Minimize disruption? By enacting rules to make it like a prison? I'm so disappointed in how scared the school seems to be about Omicron. It is so embarrassing. Thankfully Omicron is not killing people like the other variants. So these measures seem to be overkill to me. I want my daughter to have a normal senior year. Unfortunately, SR is having a knee-jerk reaction to a small group of overly worried parents/teachers and leaving sanity and reason behind. Life needs to go on with covid. If you are worried about getting it, stay home. If not, please let the rest of us move on and try to give our kids a normal life.

Just temporary? We’re going on three years.

March 2020 to 2022. My estimate says 2 years rather than 3.

No sh*t , Sherlock. You do understand how many different coronaviruses there are and that the only one of them that is “a cold” is a cold, not COVID-19, right?

You calling OTHER people nimrods is freaking rich.
