Friends who were triple vaxxed and still got COVID said it was still horrible and they were knocked out for days. Local hospitals are still stretched to the limit.
This variant is incredibly contagious. If wearing masks protects our girls and community members such as teachers with immune weaknesses then that is the least we can do. As far as I have heard, all local Private schools are stepping up COVID precautions. DMV is a global hot spot. I do hope wearing masks outside will not be necessary in a few weeks though. |
Yes they are. Ask around. |
What are you researching? |
“Many people are saying…” BS. I know 20 people who were triple vaxxed and got covid and it was a cold. |
Covid-19. PP you replied to. |

SR parent here. They require N95 or KN95 now that cases in the area have gone up significantly. They also set up a big tent on the field for outdoor eating, and lunch is provided in individually packaged bags (no buffet-style).
I think that's fine -- their goal is to keep school open and there's no question the new variant is highly contagious. As for the masks, many countries in Europe, including Germany and Belgium, have required this type of mask (known as FFP2 there) since last spring. Everyone wears them there. I even got turned away from the Lufthansa lounge in Munich airport because I had a blue surgical mask but not an FFP2 mask. |
My friends said they were wiped out for days |
And a fully Vaccinated 14 year old dd of friend became really sick. It may be like a cold for many but nonetheless local hospitals are overwhelmed so a sizable Minority are becoming sick. Also we do not yet know whether they will develop long haul COVID as did many people with Delta who had mild Symptoms initially. |
Will the School accept double masking with a surgical mask under a cloth mask (which closes the gaps on the sides of the surgical)? My children find this more comfortable than the N95 and the school accepts it. |
It may have been similar to a cold but it was not a cold. |

Update from today’s Washington Post
More than 28,000 people have died from coronavirus in D.C., Maryland and Virginia More than 2,069,000 cases have been reported. Rose in new cases past week vertical on WP graph After the Christmas holiday, the region saw the highest seven-day averages of new cases at any point since the pandemic began in early 2020, fueled in part by the omicron variant. Coronavirus-related deaths, which often lag caseloads by several weeks, have so far not been rapidly increasing. Nonetheless, Hospitalizations also have surged in the region, with D.C. in late December recording the highest number of suspected and confirmed covid-19 inpatients ever during the pandemic. The uptick, combined with a shortage in health-care staff, has caused some hospitals in the region to say they are overwhelmed. |
I don’t need to ask around. |
I think that is implied as a yes since guidance says not cloth masks alone. I find that more comfortable as well and our doctor says it is as effective as n95. |
Local hospitals are not overwhelmed. They are understaffed to begin with and people who test positive start thinking they’re dying and show up to the ER with no symptoms are very late symptoms clogging up the ERs if they’re even clogged for people who are actually really sick. |
Hardly anywhere outside of healthcare requires medical level respirators, this is ridiculous. They are incredibly hard to breathe in. I would poke holes in her mask. |
