Sidwell, GDS, Maret: Keep schools open

As of now, correct. But Sidwell has proven itself remarkably capable of doing the most conservative thing re Covid regardless of other consequences throughout.

As for HS, which is where the positivity rate "spiked" to a whopping 3% before break (and was only 2% when they shut it down), it's exams for 2 weeks.

Entirely possible to do that all in person . . . if necessary have 9/10 take exams in morning and 11/12 in afternoon (or vice versa), spread kids out in more rooms. And because it's one a day if there's some kid in advanced langauge/math/science they can take in other slot.

I'd bet that you can count on one hand the number of kids who are eligible for vaccines who aren't vaccinated at these schools (i.e., received "religious" exemption or have a true medical reason for not being vaccinated).
Obviously GDS and Sidwell have 4 year olds in the PK, and they would have to stay at home since they are unvaccinated.

It’s time to shut the schools down. We are at one of the school listed here and about half the class is traveling over break. Good luck everybody!

We know you’re jealous that everyone is traveling but you- because you still don’t “feel safe” - but that is not going to cause a school shut down. Sorry.

No response on the merits from the PP

Two weeks of virtual is small price to pay. I worry about the unboosted kids whose immunity has waned from vaccination more than 6 months ago. I worry about the teachers — a lot. If we lose even one teacher by returning January 4 vs. January 17, it will not have been worth it. I hope Sidwell makes the right decision.

Speaking as a teacher, you are much more likely to lose me if I’m forced to teach virtually until mid-January or later. I am done teaching virtually and pretending my students can learn that way. We would need a day to prepare and distribute materials and technology and then waste another couple of days getting students familiar with learning online again, or what passes for learning. It’s a waste of time unless it’s truly the only option available and better than nothing. That’s not the case here. Keep school open and let me do my job.

Typical shitty Trumper who wants to make this about jealousy. We’re interested in safety for our children, dumbass. Take your political BS somewhere else.

DP and not a Trumper but we also attend one of the schools listed here and travelled to a significant international tourism destination over break. We have taken multiple home antigen tests since returning that were negative and our school will require PCR testing before we return. This is not a reason to close schools and I am not sure why that is an issue or concern for you?

It is not time for schools to close. Not until everything else closes.

That doesn’t mean that you, PP, are not a jackazz.

No Booster, you don't get to return to campus

Plus- pre-test 3 days before- just like what is required to fly

DH communicated to our Head that we will leave the school if they go virtual again; I encourage others with cojones to do the same.

So no campus for those ineligible for a booster?

Thank you. I hope you’re one of my kids’ teachers!

LOL sure. Let’s face it. You could not even stay home during a pandemic. You just had to go to a “significant international tourist destination”. Now you are going to take multiple home test without any symptoms? I do not believe you. You know there are shortages of the home test kits. People with symptoms can not find them but you are just testing away! I bet you would send your kid in if he/she tested positive because it’s all about you.

DP here: what a jealous creep! Thank god some people are keeping the economy moving and indeed life moving. Get back to your fetal position and cry.

Don’t let the door hit you. My priority is my children’s safety. If the community numbers are high, people need to stay home.

Seems that the countries who have been most successful at controlling are the ones that have enforced lockdowns. We sadly don’t have the political will here to do true lockdowns, but we can at least close potential spreader nodes.
