Well at least protect the unvaccinated under-5s for goodness sake. Sure, they seem to get less sick, but I'd prefer my nearly 5 year old can make it 3 more months to their birthday rather than be infected by you. |
| If the 10 day isolation requirement after a positive test is still in effect, there will be many many absent students and teachers |
Wow this ^^^^did not age well.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/27/us-child-covid-omicron-infections-school-closures |
| Keep reading the article—none of the 5-11yo admitted to the hospital were fully vaccinated the week of December 19th. Go stick it to the kid! |
|
Keep the youngest, unvaccinated out of school. For the fully vaccinated, let the parents decide.
Schools should be doing rapid testing at school, first thing in the morning. Parents should be put on notice that kids who test positive on the rapid test will need to be picked up that morning. |
| And any child not vaccinated should be forced to stay at home? No excuses, right? |
What about the false positives? |
Not necessarily. They should have to take a rapid every day and if negative, then they assume the risk by going to school |
There aren’t many false positives. It’s false negatives that are a problem. |
I'd bet that you can count on one hand the number of kids who are eligible for vaccines who aren't vaccinated at these schools (i.e., received "religious" exemption or have a true medical reason for not being vaccinated). Obviously GDS and Sidwell have 4 year olds in the PK, and they would have to stay at home since they are unvaccinated. |
It’s time to shut the schools down. We are at one of the school listed here and about half the class is traveling over break. Good luck everybody! |
|
Maybe take a page from the what the Universities are doing- mandatory booster for all faculty and students prior to return to 2nd semester
No Booster, you don't get to return to campus Plus- pre-test 3 days before- just like what is required to fly |
| Parents and schools have to be flexible: it all depends on how many students test positive. Our DC's middle and upper school had to close early before the break because of many positive cases. It was the right decision. Who wants to be known as the super spreader school? |
You personally know how many tests and how much lab capacity is available to Sidwell? Who will literally test everyone before resuming school and will continue regular surveillance testing after school starts? Incredible. |
| New CDC guidance is only a 5 day quarantine for asymptomatic Covid cases. This will change the math on staff being available to come back to school. |
