Don’t let the door hit you. My priority is my children’s safety. If the community numbers are high, people need to stay home.

Seems that the countries who have been most successful at controlling are the ones that have enforced lockdowns. We sadly don’t have the political will here to do true lockdowns, but we can at least close potential spreader nodes.

My priority is my children’s education, mental well being and development. You are sick sick and your husband is weak. Sorry for your kids.

NYT puts DC as the highest rate of new positive tests in the entire country. +984% in the last 14 days. Stay home.

“ Updated Dec. 27, 2021
Cases have increased recently and are extremely high: The total reported for the past week was the highest of the pandemic. The number of hospitalized Covid patients has also risen in the Washington, D.C. area. Deaths have remained at about the same level. The test positivity rate in Washington, D.C. is high, suggesting that cases may be undercounted.”

So great they could take time away from attacking project Veritas to report on these statistics. Excuse me while I yawn.

Sounds like you have a pretty strong leadership with your HOS...

Massive letter campaign does have an impact and I know this from hearing from Upper level Admin

But you also need to advocate for a way to allow Admin to show that attendance in person is safe . So, you should also be insisting on mandatory boosters for ALL faculty, staff and students at least 2 weeks prior to return and no older than November ( cause it starts to wear off at 10 weeks - decreasing by 10 percent a month for each month 10 weeks post booster )

AND insist on mandatory testing of all students, faculty and staff 3 days prior to return for 2nd semester

This is exactly what many colleges are doing

Heck, we were just in a European country over winter break that is testing its entire population of 700k once a week for free since start of pandemic and has an 88 percent vaccine compliance rate - so this can be accomplished in a democracy

And everyone was wearing masks too

How can kids 15 and under get boosters? 12-15 yo kids can fall in a donut hole of last vaccination was six months ago, but no booster available. Six months out + no booster means a 5-day quarantine for every close contact. No way schools can open for the donut hole kids.

Your husband sounds like an ass. Talk about an empty threat. Where will you go?

He stands up for his family when he needs to, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. If he didn’t stand up for the kids, I wouldn’t respect him.

I’ll take the kids back to TN where I grew up and DH will follow. A sacrifice for him; the private schools in middle Tennessee are great. No sacrifice there.

So TN's best and brightest do not comprise all its expats?

Anonymous wrote:I strongly disagree. They should go virtual through mid January when omicron is expected to peak and then subside. There simply are not enough tests or lab capacity to do this right. Two weeks of virtual is small price to pay. I worry about the unboosted kids whose immunity has waned from vaccination more than 6 months ago. I worry about the teachers — a lot. If we lose even one teacher by returning January 4 vs. January 17, it will not have been worth it. I hope Sidwell makes the right decision.

Two more weeks of virtual is a price too large to pay.

If we lose even one of these kids to suicide or overdose because of the mental health crisis the isolation of virtual school creates, it will not have been worth it.

Our kid is new to private this year, and spent 18 mo of virtual in MCPS - with significant mental impact. How does one WEEK of virtual - to allow delayed testing on Weds or Thurs - impact our kids' mental health?

Have fun in the ICU. Won't shed a tear for you.

And when we lose kids or teachers to Covid, is that worth it? Sounds like you're just selfishly caring about your own kid and your desire to ship him off to school.

Agree. All the people whining about the supposed mental health harms of five days of virtual are either disingenuous or stupid or both.
