DC does not have universal pre-K. |
It does, though. Not, perhaps, at your in-boundary school. But somewhere. |

"Access to high-quality, affordable childcare is a critical need for families across the District, and DCPS is proud to provide free, universal Pre-K in a school environment to ensure all of our young learners are ready for kindergarten." |
Lying is bad. |
| Using public financing is a great shield for anyone who wants to use PACs and other special interest groups to run ads, send mailers, etc. I’m not as naive as some of you, including our moderator |

Might as well save the money on this one.
Bowser will not be touched. |
| Was relieved to see Bowser running again. She's the most sensible elected politician we have in the District. She is all that stands in the way of the lunatics on DC Council, including and especially Robert White, from implementing the worst lefty ideas out there. |
| Surprised Charles Allen isn't running. I hear that he really wants to run but is being advised he'd have zero chance of winning the primary (he'd probably finish third, at best). He'd also have to give up his council seat, so it would be a lose-lose for him (while him leaving the council would be a win-win for DC). |
Same. |
Yep. Am not enthralled by her and thinks she is far too "Green Team" in cronyism, but at least she's not completely insane. A DC controlled by Robert White and the current council will put us right up there with Portland and San Francisco as cities which have been made uninhabitable by progressive politics. And given that the federal government today put out guidance encouraging more work from home, DC is about to get much, much worse. The CBD is a ghost town because the federal government has not gone back to work. It took decades for the downtown east of 14th Street to return to being a functioning business district and that has now cratered. We have not yet begun to see the economic fallout for the District from the "work from home" juggernaut. And with the hollowing out of downtown we are going to see increased crime and vagrancy and substantially decreased tax revenue---sales taxes, real estate taxes (the value of those empty office buildings will fall, thus less RE tax revenue), etc. And eventually, even though neighborhoods like the Wharf and Navy Yard are still building, the trickle-down will start to be felt in the neighborhoods. People flocked to the cities in the last 20 years to avoid long commutes. No commute = no need to flock, especially as millennials all start having kids and needing good schools. The progressives on the Council may disdain all those money-grubbing capitalists with the expensive office space downtown, but without them there isn't any $$ to fund all those social programs. |
| Yes, I fear that both Robert White and Trayon White would turn us into Portland... or DC before Anthony Williams. Hard no to both of those guys so who's left besides Bowser? |
Please don’t post about things about which you are ignorant. DC does have universal prek. |
If you think she's excellent, you've never lived in a city with an excellent Mayor. She just hasn't f*cked anything up. |
Oh please. Get a grip. We'll be fine. |
DP. I don't think she's great or anything, but in relation to the others running? She's a gem. Like Robert White has zero plans for anything, never does anything but talks, and wants you to believe he's like Marion Barry. Is it normal in DC for politicians to WANT to align themselves with Barry? I'm not even talking about the drugs here, I'm talking about all the corruption and mismanagement. |
