Marion Barry got elected by being a patronage pol and handing out government jobs (with pensions) to his supporters. If you can capture the voting bloc who would like to return to those days, and garner enough of the white far -left progressive vote, then you can win the primary. |
There's more to Marion Barry than that. Talk to a guy my age who got his life on track starting with the youth employment program. Makes ok enough money as a personal trainer now to get by in life. It's no excuse for corruption and mismanagement but there are some things he did well. |
Didn’t Barry bankrupt the city like that? |
Answering my own question: https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1995-04-04-1995094073-story.html Yeah it looks like Barry also seriously harmed DC's interests in becoming a state. |
hence...not universal |
Yes, I also like to change the meaning of words in order to ineffectually score points in internet arguments. |
It's amusing that the schools that don't have pre-K are generally the wealthier, whiter schools WOTP. Those parents can get free pre-K in their neighborhoods at a number of private locations. To complain about this is truly ridiculous. |
| “Free” pre-k at private locations is not, in fact, free. |
Oh god it is though, for locations that partner with the city. Please tell me where you had to go to get pre-k bc you couldn’t get it at your in-boundary school. |
| Let me take a moment to laugh my ass off about the poor rich person who can’t figure out how to access free, UNIVERSAL pre-k in DC. |
