DC Mayor Bowser officially running for 3rd term. Using public financing.

DP. I don't think she's great or anything, but in relation to the others running? She's a gem. Like Robert White has zero plans for anything, never does anything but talks, and wants you to believe he's like Marion Barry.

Is it normal in DC for politicians to WANT to align themselves with Barry? I'm not even talking about the drugs here, I'm talking about all the corruption and mismanagement.

Marion Barry got elected by being a patronage pol and handing out government jobs (with pensions) to his supporters. If you can capture the voting bloc who would like to return to those days, and garner enough of the white far -left progressive vote, then you can win the primary.

There's more to Marion Barry than that. Talk to a guy my age who got his life on track starting with the youth employment program. Makes ok enough money as a personal trainer now to get by in life. It's no excuse for corruption and mismanagement but there are some things he did well.

Didn’t Barry bankrupt the city like that?

Answering my own question: https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1995-04-04-1995094073-story.html

Yeah it looks like Barry also seriously harmed DC's interests in becoming a state.

Whatever. You all will complain about anything meanwhile taking full advantage of the Paid Leave and Free Pre-School that the city offers. We're the only state in the country which has both. Meanwhile NOVA next door just roundly slammed the door on both proposals from a VA Governor and time-traveled back to the 1960s.

If you don't like Bowser, you are welcome to go move to Hogan and Youngkin territory.

Vincent Gray provided free PK-3 when he was the mayor, not Bowser.

Did I say she provided free PK-3? The city has awesome programs and initiatives spearheaded by a succession of excellent mayors including Bowser.

DC does not have universal pre-K.

It does, though. Not, perhaps, at your in-boundary school. But somewhere.

hence...not universal

Yes, I also like to change the meaning of words in order to ineffectually score points in internet arguments.

It's amusing that the schools that don't have pre-K are generally the wealthier, whiter schools WOTP. Those parents can get free pre-K in their neighborhoods at a number of private locations. To complain about this is truly ridiculous.

“Free” pre-k at private locations is not, in fact, free.

Oh god it is though, for locations that partner with the city.

Please tell me where you had to go to get pre-k bc you couldn’t get it at your in-boundary school.

Let me take a moment to laugh my ass off about the poor rich person who can’t figure out how to access free, UNIVERSAL pre-k in DC.
