It was and is still like this in my home town. On motorcycles, bicycles and four wheelers. I see it on the main drag by the beach on weekend nights, and late at night on the highway. When I was a teenager I thought it was very risky, but cool. Now I just pray for the kids.
I first saw drag racing in the movie Grease when I was a kid. It still reminds me of that movie. Kids are wild. |
This is a question I ask myself, every time I have to cross a big street on foot, and every time I choose a longer route on my bicycle to avoid the big streets. |
Using this logic, it should be A-OK to massively expand the proliferation of nuclear weapons, because don't you know? Zero deaths from nuclear bombs since 1945. You have asinine mental reasoning. |
| They are not usually “kids” goofing off, they are 25-35 years olds and they are not just popping wheelies in empty parking lots. I have seen folks weave in and out of traffic ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD, jump curbs and hit 60 plus in a block. It’s very dangerous. And should not be condoned. |
Or maybe we can start with what's actually making DC streets dangerous and killing people on DC streets, which is not people on dirt bikes and ATVs doing wheelies. |
This is incredibly dumb. |
How about a holistic approach to public safety and we deal with all the issues? |
Terrific. How about we START with what's actually making DC streets dangerous and killing people on DC streets, which is not people on dirt bikes and ATVs doing wheelies. |
Sure. You know what doesn't kill people on DC street either? Hovercrafts too. Let's make sure people are allowed to ride their hovercrafts all over the street and on the mall because they're aren't killing anyone either. And you're wrong. ATVs/dirtbikers have killed people in DC before. Chiefly themselves, for starters. |
Don’t we have - through all the various agencies - more police officers per capita than any city in the world, yet you want to start with false prioritizations? How about we get every dimes worth across all dimes spent and fix everything. I would rather shoot for perfection and “fail” at excellence than start off with excuses and end up with terrible. |
Is there a reason you keep harping on this one thing which doesn't kill people on the streets, instead of this other thing which does? |
Focusing on THE FACTORS THAT ACTUALLY KILL PEOPLE is a "false prioritization"? https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/allison-hart-bicycle-road-safety/2021/09/18/2253d8a4-1820-11ec-a5e5-ceecb895922f_story.html |
Stop trying to get people cancelled. Name. Rank. Serial number. |
If you focus on ALL the things that could kill people you would be in a much better place. You seem to want to let certain things slide but I do not want to wait for another death or serious injury to react. In fact, it would probably be best to have the police focus on ALL moving vehicle violations to achieve the optimal across the board outcome. If they are looking for cars, they can also be looking at other vehicles. Watching one reckless and dangerous thing and excusing it while pursuing some other, makes no sense. ALL threats. ALL the time. |
