It was and is still like this in my home town. On motorcycles, bicycles and four wheelers. I see it on the main drag by the beach on weekend nights, and late at night on the highway. When I was a teenager I thought it was very risky, but cool. Now I just pray for the kids.

I first saw drag racing in the movie Grease when I was a kid. It still reminds me of that movie. Kids are wild.

It’s not just the potential for accidents and death. They are noisy so of course people clear the street. But is it fair that they get to clear the street of other users through intimidation? And wake up little kids who may be sleeping in apartments? It’s just really inconsiderate.

This is a question I ask myself, every time I have to cross a big street on foot, and every time I choose a longer route on my bicycle to avoid the big streets.

They are not usually “kids” goofing off, they are 25-35 years olds and they are not just popping wheelies in empty parking lots. I have seen folks weave in and out of traffic ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD, jump curbs and hit 60 plus in a block. It’s very dangerous. And should not be condoned.

If you focus on ALL the things that could kill people you would be in a much better place. You seem to want to let certain things slide but I do not want to wait for another death or serious injury to react. In fact, it would probably be best to have the police focus on ALL moving vehicle violations to achieve the optimal across the board outcome. If they are looking for cars, they can also be looking at other vehicles. Watching one reckless and dangerous thing and excusing it while pursuing some other, makes no sense. ALL threats.
