At this point, I'd be fine if the city would let them do a parade every Sunday during the summer for purposes of harm reduction.
Have it be a pre-defined route, give them a police escort, have the kids get tags on their vehicles, have an ambulance trail the pack in case of any injuries. The pack of vehicles move quickly enough that it really wouldn't affect traffic all that much. |
Yes, those are also important public-policy issues. |

It’s funny (and by funny I mean pathetic) that this whole ATV thing is just racist code-language for newly arrived white people to complain about seeing young Black men on “their” block.
All of you are racist AF. |
Then that should be all the proof you need to realize that bikes shouldn’t be required to follow traffic laws for cars. If 41% of cyclists aren’t obeying laws, then those are stupid laws. That’s why they’re not being obeyed. Because you can’t expect people to obey stupid laws. And cyclists tend to be more intelligent than the statistical mean, and the more intelligent a group is, the more likely it is capable of reason, and the less likely that group is to follow rules that don’t make sense. |
My spouse and I have been here 20+ years. We are not white. We still find the ATVs to be a danger to public safety. Including to non-white people like us. There is nothing racist about wanting to be safe in our city. We have no problem seeing young Black men on our block. Please stop stereotyping, reaching unsubstantiated conclusions, and calling people names. Doing so makes you quite similar to the racists you are decrying. |
“We are not white” means that you cannot be racist? |
“Intelligent” LOL |
Not at all. We are not white was in response to the claim that only "newly arrived white people" are concerned about ATVs. |
| In this case, the young black men are doing an anti-social thing. We need to stop tolerating misbehavior, no matter who is perpetrating it. |
