What is wrong with the FBI?

It's very likely that this case never came across his desk until long after Nassar was arrested. He's not seeing every lead that comes out of the Indianapolis field office. He didn't squash this case or throw his political weight around.

And I absolutely agree with the person who said Comey is a narcissist. But he wasn't the problem in the Nassar case.

Two reasons. 1) He hired Abbott. 2) If the FBI discovers allegations of abuse impacting US Gymnastics and the Olympics, it absolutely would have been briefed up the chain to Comey. He would not want to learn about the investigation into such significant organizations from the news. He knew. And if he didn’t, he was not an effective Director. I have worked in two federal agencies and we have the “Washington Post” test. If it would be published in the news, the boss needs to hear it from us first. He knew or should have known.

Pp here. And if he didn’t, once it broke he should have been all over it. This guy who buried the repot should have been fired years ago. Abbot should have been fired. None of that happened under Comeys watch even after he definitely knew.

The primary problem is it’s truly a rogue agency.

It’s first director was a closeted bi-racial gay man, who spied on and blackmailed several Presidents, and whose name is still on the building which houses it’s headquarters. It’s always been a rogue agency.

+1
This is absolutely mind bogglingly bad.

Ding ding ding!

Yeah right, you sound like a man hater.

I guess you weren't talking about the thousands of male police officers and prosecutors who lock up these idiots every year.

So you didn’t know about all the unprocessed rape kits? Literally thousands across the country? And I mean on a thread about how the FBI managed to let an additional 70-120 girls and women get sexually assaulted, maybe you should have a trace of self awareness and do the barest minimum of research.

Because other men greenlight it. They fail to investigate abuse, they continue to work and be friends with abusers, they look the other way, they stay quiet, etc. It may be correct that most men in America are not okay with child sexual abuse or abuse but they are not bothered enough to use their influence to stop it. It’s like how so many white people looked the other way despite clear evidence of police brutality occurring at higher rates against Black people. It took George Floyd being murdered in front of us for over 8 minutes during a pandemic before many white Americans stopped looking away. We have a societal problem. We will have a problem until those who benefit the most from our current system—specifically affluent, connected men—stop looking away and do something. That includes all those men with daughters who love them but not enough to demand real accountability.

This exactly. Just look at the light sentences rapist get - if they get any time at all. Go read the Local DC news forum about the convicted rapist following women around DuPont Circle. He’s threatening women and cops don’t seem to do anything. Everyone keeps saying “we can’t do anything” because to the men in power, it doesn’t affect them. Only women are affected so it doesn’t really matter to them.

Do you realize that rape is not even a federal crime? Now Nassar crossed state lines to sexually exploit minors but if he'd done it all in his home state it would not be federal. I agree this was mishandled and I hope the former agents are indicted for their corrupt failure to perform their jobs. They allowed Nassar to victimize many more girls.

Who remembers during the Olympics when Simone Biles took a couple of days off for her mental health? GOPrs went nuts and called her unpatriotic and all sorts of mocking ensued in right wing media. Shame on them for picking on this young woman when it was already known she is a sexual assault survivor. This girl was molested for years yet somehow perservered and became the greatest living gymnast. Then she had to endure ridicule by the likes of Tucker Carlson.

How many rape cases have YOU prosecuted?

Yeah, it's just men who are responsible for the unprocessed rape kits.

Just because you read the NyTimes doesn't mean that you actually know what you're talking about, sweetie.

Men run the police agencies in the US. Men are running Congress. Men are at the top of all power structures in America. So yes, men look the other way. If they didn’t, these stories would not happen!

How many times does this country have to show you that they don't care about women and girls for you to believe it? They are showing you who they are through their action, inaction, legislation, etc. And yet we still have questions like the OP title.

How is this really so different from the Catholic a use scandals that involved boys? Why are you so sure that it is because girls were involved?

Men and fathers are majorly protective of their daughters and sisters so I really don’t understand how you guys think men do not care about girls getting molested.

How is it 2021 and people are just now realizing the FBI is corrupt and incompetent?

So you aren’t aware of all the rape cases, or the fact that that violence isn’t frequently prosecuted seriously. As we’re seeing in the subject of this thread, as well as your appalling (but silly) attempt to degrade me. “Sweetie.”

Women are still treated as second class citizens in a lot of respects. Women don’t have bodily autonomy in a lot of states, most notoriously in Texas but a lot of forced-birth states are trying to do the same.

And do you want to see how elected Republicans have spoken about rape, on the record?

Because they’re the highest law enforcement office in the country.
