Two reasons.  1) He hired Abbott.  2) If the FBI discovers allegations of abuse impacting US Gymnastics and the Olympics, it absolutely would have been briefed up the chain to Comey.  He would not want to learn about the investigation into such significant organizations from the news.  He knew.  And if he didn’t, he was not an effective Director.  I have worked in two federal agencies and we have the “Washington Post” test.  If it would be published in the news, the boss needs to hear it from us first.  He knew or should have known.  [/quote]
