Yup, she rolled like a felled log. LOL.

Uh, that statement says nothing as we predicted. It gives no answers to any of the questions.

Dp- that they get to keep their titles, stay in the fam, move, and do less.

The titles won't be revoked for sure. Not sure why people were speculating that. Titles are for life. They are only revoked if you do something treasonous. There were some German princes with British titles and those titles were revoked during WWI.

But they are leaving the RF. Looks like they aren't going to do royal duties. The whole thing about funding independence makes that clear. Harry might still do some every now as part of a show with Wil, but Meghan ain't opening up any more hospitals or meeting victims of fire.

Yeah, but here's the thing - Meghan met with the victims of the Grenfell fire before she even married into that family.

Just like Diana, Meghan can do things on her own or shocker - alongside hundreds of foundations and NGOs already doing work on the ground like the United Nations. Amazing concept.

As for the duties - I agree. I think this will leave Meghan and Harry more time to focus on their positions as:

President and Vice President of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust (there's 30+ countries to visit outside England/Wales/Ireland)
President and Founder of the Invictus Games
Co-President of the Sentebale Charity
Co-Founders of the Sussex Royal Foundaiton

And whatever else they have in their minds.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on them visiting countries for the Queen. That’s tedious and boring. Not for them.

She made them P and VP of the Commonwealth Trust. And fyi Canada is a Commonwealth country so they're doing her a favor - expanding the monarchy into a global force.

Canada and Australia really need semi-permanent royal representatives. Especially considering they send a royal on tour to Australia every year ANYWAY.

Just let Mike and Zara have Australia. They seem to love it.

How Zara has hinted she could leave Britain for good

ZARA TINDALL is the Queen’s eldest granddaughter and while she does not have an official title she is very much part of the family. The Olympic equestrian recently revealed she would consider ditching Britain for Australia in the long-term.

I think if MM makes a direct blackmail on the Queen she will follow in Diana’s footsteps — to an early grave. Problem solved.

It's difficult to see how you can continue to rely on the income from the Duchy AND claim that you are "financially independent."

Sounds like it:

Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.

And then Charles will withdraw their allowance?

Does the "allowance" stem from public funds or private assets owned by the BRF? If public funds, then the "allowance" will go away. If from privately held assets, then the Queen/Charles will need to make a choice.

The entire problem is that the Queen/Charles refused to pro-actively make decisions. Harry forced them to act and now it will all play out in public.

The allowance is from Prince Charles' income from the Duchy of Cornwall. It's his to give or take away. It is not part of the Sovereign Grant which is taxpayer funded. The Sussexes have wanted to give up the Sovereign Grant funds all along. Even if Prince Charles withdraws the money that he gives them, Harry still has around $33 million in his own money and then MM has whatever she brought into the marriage.

When the Queen dies it will become William’s money. And he will have his own children to support. Bye bye big allowance!

You're an idiot.

When the Queen dies, guess who becomes King?

Yeah, Harry's father. He'll get twice the income of the Duchy of Cornwall immediately allotted to him.

Yep. Contrary to what some what to think, it's been handled very quickly, minimal fuss, Harry and Meghan were already halfway out the door, it resolves the issue of Harry's future for the time being (not a working royal and makes it easier to focus on Will & Kate's family as the future). Within a few days the press furor will die down and Harry and Meghan will move on to their new life quickly enough.

My only thoughts are two fold: what the actual future is like for Harry and Meghan is utterly unpredictable and I am not gambling on a happy outcome. I don't think they are greedy or manipulative, but what they seem to want won't jar well with reality, methinks. They will too easily fall into the celebrity rut of too much easy money, slavish adoration and no challenges. And my second thought is that the Royal family will never forget nor forgive Meghan Markle and are probably glad to see her gone. Not because of racism but because they probably do see her as unsuitable for Harry, took him away from them, emotionally unstable, and most of all, who rejected the entire concept of royal duty and obligation, and probably do expect her to divorce Harry someday.

Good, I don’t follow US celebrities anyway. Hopefully they will disappear from British press.

I doubt the press will ease up. They will be hounded relentlessly aka Diana.

Some of those positions will be withdrawn if they are not on the Royal Rota (the Commonwealth one especially). And even the Invictus Games might go. Harry is *withdrawing* from his duty. Which part of this do you not understand?

Meghan would have never met the Grenfell victims if she wasn't dating Harry at the time..... And the Queen was the first one there, FYI.

I know some of you have this amazing vision of a future of endless do-good, traipsing around the world bringing joy and good to people's lives, saving the animals in Africa and safe water for villages. And that somehow they'll make their own fortune while simultaneously raising money for good causes (as for the hypocrisy here, well, that's another 200 page thread).

But, eh, I'm not gambling on anything more than a relatively shallow life of celeb / red carpet outings in Hollywood, parties with the Cloonies and the occasional visit to an African charity for the photo ops.

Do you not know what a private foundation or charity is?

Invictus, Sussex Royal Foundation, and Sentebale are all privately owned by Prince Harry and have zero to do with the Royal Family in regards to chartership.

It'd be like trying to take the Special Olympics from Eunice Shriver because shes a Kennedy when the Kennedy's themselves have nothing to do with it.

(That is also the reason by the way that Pitch@Palace wasn't taken from Prince Andrew and he was just forced to pay his ex-Private Secretary six figures. It's a private enterprise. The royal family can't 'strip' something they don't own.)

I can't imagine the racism she dealt with there, or the snobbery. She married for love, not status. You could tell the entire time leading up to the wedding that she was camera nervous.

She seems down to earth. Too down to earth to sit on the perch of the British Empire, I guess.

But who cares? Seriously? They are living their best liife. Good for them.

Is there some type of political or larger implication of this that I am missing that impacts anyone but the royal family?

Racism? Nobody sees a black woman when they see MM. She's trying to appropriate and weaponize blackness that she does not actually possess. She didn't grow up hard knocks, either; she was a privileged private school gal from K through age 22. Then she was a layabout actress for 15 years. Now she's a layabout royal interloper. Her woe is me minority shtick falls flat. This is one of THE most privileged persons on Earth.

WTF? Were you born under a rock? Most people do see her as a black woman.

+1. I'm the biracial PP. Most white Americans have trouble recognizing African ancestry--I think this is partly why some AAs were able to "pass" into white society throughout US history.

I've had white people burst out laughing when they find out I'm black/part black. Never had that happen with black people; they always recognize that I'm at least part black.

STOP IT. Both (all?) of you.

Stop what? Acknowledging the reality of what MM and other AAs may face in 2020? Are you trying to shush VALID experiences? Did you shush the similar shade POC that doesnt like MM and said she isn't black, or that she didnt have blackness?

Look, if you want to put your head in the sand and choke that is on you. What you aren't going to do is control who can and who cannot talk about their experience and contribution becuase it offends your fragile sensibilities. There are over 1M AA people in Mississipi alone that have been told to STOP talking about things that others dont care about.

You don't have the right to tell me to stop sharing my opinion and experience. Go back to sleeping on everything.

Maybe you should ask yourself why you're so bothered by it. You can agree/disagree/not GAF, and not feel the need to regulate convo.

Not at all. I’m saying William will control the whole 21M and Harry will receive but a fraction from Charles. Especially once Harry divorces his wife.

Which is why they need to start working towards financial independence.
