CEO of even more major company here.

I just ordered a doubling of recruiting from Texas colleges.

(See how that works?)

Pp Trying to prove something? You are just showing how small minded you are.

Four of the ten fastest growing areas in the US are in Texas. I think they’ll be ok.

That is 2020 census date. Come back to us with this year's OOS application numbers. The terrible vigilantes as enforcers law did not go into effect until September 1, 2021.

I expect fewer applicants to colleges/universities in that state this year. We’ll have to see by how much.

My son is at Rice, and I was happy that he picked someplace outside of the liberal coastal bubble even though I am very far to the left (and not in the DCUM "I'm as liberal as they come but [completely conservative statement proving they're not]" way).

He has had a great experience there, and it sounds as though he is surrounded by a lot of great people, any of whom I would be happy to have as a guest, should they have any reason to want to visit DC. Even if they're pregnant! Why, I'd be happy to buy them a ticket!

But it's not just the most recent guns-n-embryo legislation that gives me pause. It's the way the Texas lege devotes itself to making the state unsafe in other ways. The power grid fails, and Rice has its own generators, so it's OK. But kids at other colleges? Screwed. Climate change results in flooding, and Rice is on high ground, so it's OK. But other places? Screwed. COVID appears in wave after wave. Rice imposes rules to keep its community safe, and it works. But other places? Screwed.

I don't want my kid to be less safe, but can you really be part of the community when your safety so often requires you to pull up the drawbridge?

A terrible law like this texas law has a chilling effect on all genders and ages. If women need to steer clear than what is left?

I wasn't jazzed about the idea of my kids going to school TX because of the lax gun owner requirements, but I had considered UT Austin for my 2nd. Now that this vigilante bill and even more lax gun requirements have been passed, I would strongly discourage her from applying to anywhere in TX. She is well informed and has no interest in going there.

PS that fake "2nd CEO" is a hoot. I suspect the "even more major company" has three employees (me, myself and I).

I don't think any of these cowards have addressed this abomination of a law other than salesforce. But they can try to recruit new employees to move to Texas all day and night...this new law is not going to help them compete for talent in any way.

I’ll be thrilled if they’re low. My DC will have a shot at being one of the less than 10% that are admitted to UT OOS!

Duh. Of course dc will be competing against fewer students. Not the most desirable location anymore. Enjoy.

Sad, these are great schools, but I can see faculty leaving for other places where their rights are not restricted and where education is valued more.

Why Vanderbilt?

Watch for the copycat laws. Florida was first and others will follow soon.

One way to narrow the college list!

Tesla officially moved its headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin, Texas CEO Elon Musk announced at the company’s 2021 annual shareholder meeting.
