Can someone explain AEM to me?

The AEM moderator has given complete reins to SR leadership. Lawyer Lady is back along with sidekick Ventilation Lady. The moderator even allowed a third SR person start a thread with her permission. I actually agree with some of what they say, but do they have to be so offputting? They post long winded theses as if they are experts, not allowing anyone to get a word in edgewise.

I guess we're back to the Spring. Where's APE when you need them. I'd like some crazy back to balance SR's hand wringing righteousness.

Thank goodness for SB 1303.

DP. I honestly think APS is doing the best they can. Mandatory vaccines for staff, masking for all kids, along with testing (most will opt in) is going to go a long way in mitigation. I think if there's any advocacy to be done, we need to focus on principals who won't do outdoor lunch, where kids will be unmasked.

These are wins. Most school districts aren't even doing this much.

For once, I can appreciate APE being quiet and just letting SR as you said, "wring hands".

SR is and has been advocating strongly for outdoor lunch for many months. Where have you been? Or do you just like to complain from your couch?

I'm trying to figure out who is complaining? Went from 0 to 100 in two seconds. Calm down, madam.

So funny that you think Outdoor Lunch has been trademarked by SR. A lot of people that don't want to be affiliated with SR advocated for Outdoor Lunch too prior to Hybrid starting.

So defensive too... sorry that Duran et al isn't capitulating to your every whim.

Yes, both people in and out of SR have been advocating for outdoor lunch. Many many people want it. You should join in the efforts.

Oh hell no. That's okay. I don't do scare tactics. I'll just email my principal who I actually do have a good relationship with because I don't scream at her with statistics and "expertise."

APS has their experts. I remember that they talked to someone at Harvard (or another Ivy League school) about ventilation last spring?

This. Plus she takes info from the internet and thinks that just because a website says something that magically it is going to work well and fit with the HVAC systems in the school. Amazingly, integration with existing systems isn’t as easy as plugging in a cable like she is imagining.

For her arguments to have any merit, she would actually need to understand the entire setup of the current systems - manufacturers, years, and so on - then understand what can and can’t be integrated, then be able to evaluate and create a plan to do so, and on and on

I don’t know why people latch on to her except for their anxiety is just through the roof and they are looking to grasp on to any last straw that schools shouldn’t open. In that way, she and her followers are like the anti-vax crowd

She's advocating for standalone HEPA filters, a very very widely recommended safety measure. What's to integrate? What's to understand?

She's doing it wrong. Most of the court of public opinion don't want to be talked down to.

APS bought air cleaners. I'm sorry they were the wrong ones according to her. Ordering them to replace them entirely means less money in our budget for you know, the actual education thing.

I'm sorry again that things are not going your way.

And what is that going to do? She knows every single classroom size, has determined the best use and placement and capacity for commercial use in conjunction with a full on HVAC system WITH filtration. NO she has no idea.

She is seriously dumb. Just dumb. And you keep falling for it over and over. She thinks the CDC puts out guidelines only for her and for Arlington Co, VA. She has never once stopped to think that the CDC has to put our recommendations for the entire US. Shocker but not every single place in the US has updated buildings and HVAC systems. Wow, never thought of that did you and neither did she. Yes, some places don't have full installed modern HVAC systems. Those are the places where ventilation are concerned especially if the buildings are small, and much older. The CDC is providing guidance to everyone. APS has met well over the minimum for modern ventalitation systems.

Looks like the bro dads are out again. What's wrong? Have a little pent up aggression after an entire summer of not having teachers or Board members to scream at?

Again, no one is being aggressive except for SR members right now. I even saw one bro dad on AEM respond, and he was rational and kind. Taking your frustrations out on others isn't helping your cause.

Breathe.

(Also, I'm a madam.)

Calling someone seriously dumb a few posts up for wanting a hepa in her kids school is rational and kind???

Someone just posted the John’s Hopkins recommendation on AEM. Seems they recommend hepas. Are they dumb too?

It’s not the message, it’s the delivery, the scare tactics. Honestly it becomes noise after awhile. I’m in an immune compromised family and very much want HEPA filters implemented correctly across schools. But SR has really turned me off with their approach. It’s a shame. I know they mean well but their manic anxiety is too much.

Agreed x1,000.

Last school year, SR belittled everyone who just wanted their kids in school. Sure, some APE members were obnoxious, but most parents in Arlington aren't fighting with the administration. We want best practices to keep our families safe, but not from people who, honestly are just plain mean to us and will take credit for any mitigation because they supposedly advocated for it first.

I'm a support staff member and a parent with kids in APS and the teachers and staff that are involved with SR mostly do not speak for us. I'm ready for Monday with my vaxx and mask. Bring it on! I'm a better teacher in the classroom.

DP. Enough with the back and forth. Look through this thread and AEM and tell me that SR members never called people out of their name? As someone said above, you are not helping your cause. You are just noise now. I bet Syphax is just so tired of SR now and all of their demands.
