Why is it so hard to believe that she herself might have been raped?

this cult teaches girls/women that they CANNOT say no to their husbands

And so do some religions.

Yes. I wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't facilitated this entire discovery. At the very least, she must be so relieved to be rid of him.

If she wanted to get rid of him, she would have divorced him, a long time ago. This will be a long and drawn out case (if he isn't pleading guilty), and he will not be held in custody the entire time. I have no opinion of whether she is a victim or an enabler, but, given their family's history with law enforcement, the media, and political/religious beliefs, there is no way she thinks turning him into the authorities is going to be the best thing for her family.

THis is Anna we're talking about. Divorce isn't in her vocabulary. It's part of their cult - submission, obedience, forgiveness, etc.

I'm wondering if Anna's continuous pregnancies/subsequent kids is the kids' shield. "Take it out on me, not on the kids"...so heart breaking. Sure, birth control would have helped, but let's get real, Anna is not strong enough to pursue birth control.

Tell me about it. I prosecuted a child porn case - just one - and I still have never gotten over the evidence I had to review. I won’t even describe it to you because it would rip your souls to shreds, too. Worst thing was the victim in one series of photos was a doppelgänger for my beloved little freckle faced ginger haired niece when she was a toddler. I still have nightmares a decade later. And daymares.

DP. That would damage me for life. Seriously thank you for doing what you did.

Don’t thank me - it was accidental, the child porn allegations were pursuant to a probation revocation on a wholly different underlying conviction. State prosecutors don’t handle child pornography typically - it’s entirely in the purview of federal prosecutors because it’s a federal crime and the penalties are severe. My respect goes to the AUSAs who work in the child pornography divisions of US Attorneys offices nationwide. They look at that stuff every single day of their working lives - and some of them have to go home to spouses and kids afterwards. Brutal.

And some people wonder why lawyers have such high rates of substance use disorder, divorce and suicide. We ain’t all biglaw raking in the cash and enjoying our second beach homes. Not by a long shot.

Truth. I always feel bad for the poor Facebook people who have to review and monitor that stuff. I watched the Daniel Pearl video ages ago and wish I never had. It marked my soul.

Can any lawyers here tell the not-lawyers among us how common it is for someone to be given that level of notice and be allowed to turn themselves in? Bc that seems very measured compare to stories I’ve read about door being busted down for crimes that are much more innocuous.

In federal cases, it is not uncommon to know indictment is imminent - it’s the when and what exactly it’ll cover that’s the secret

It's also more likely to happen this way in what are expected to be high-profile cases. If there were video footage of police breaking down Josh Duggar's door to forcibly arrest him, that would be all over the internet in a heartbeat and would call a lot of publicity to the case in a way that is not necessarily helpful to prosecutors. That kind of sensationalism makes it a lot harder to find a jury pool that hasn't seen the footage and might not have been influenced by it from the start, which can become an appeals issue for the defense later if the prosecutor is perceived as having tried to inflame public sentiment against the defendant.

Plus, it's a lot easier for law enforcement when people turn themselves in rather than needing to be hunted down.

I am a Christian who attends a fairly conservative non-denominational church and this family embarrasses me. The cultishness is just next level with IBLP.

I wish there was some kind of fund we could contribute to to get Anna some freedom. She depends on that family. She needs to be free. I can't imagine how she is feeling. It IS a cult and I cannot blame her one bit. Poor innocent 20-something thought she was marrying her "king" and look who it ended up being. Poor, poor woman.

Anna's brother offered this back during the Ashley Madison crap. She declined.

Yeah Quiverfulls are pretty cultish and don’t represent mainstream Christianity by any means.

However much of conservative evangelical Christianity in the USA has gone cultish under Trumpism too.

There were researchers who wanted to study pedophiles (the article I saw came out maybe a decade ago?) because there is some suspicion that this is something that arises in humans sometimes, and they suspect that there are more pedophiles out there, ones who do not offend. I believe the GOP shouted it down; imagine if they’d been able to glean some ways to identify pedophiles and prevent them from victimizing children.

It never ceases to amaze me how posters can find things to blame the "gop" for.

Search out the article yourself. My google powers are bad and I’m not searching the keywords I know - “pedophile” and “research.” Sorry if the reality that the GOP took the side that it was “liberals trying to give legitimacy to pedophilia.” It wasn’t. It was researchers trying to figure out what makes offenders offend so that it could be prevented.

And go ahead and pretend that the GOP isn’t involved here, but you’ll look stupid claiming it.

PP here. Yes, that’s also an embarrassment. I’m one of the few vocal never Trumpers at my church.

If they don't offend, there is nothing to prosecute. You can't prosecute people for having feelings.

Everything Q says about pedo is correct except got the party and players wrong. Investigate people sympathetic to Trump and you will get pedo and human traffickers.
