When did the SMCM decisions go out?

Also, to the PP whose son got deferred, what were his stats? Thanks.

When we toured SMCM, the admissions counselor said that they were test optional, so I don’t know why they’d then ask for them, unless it’s to strengthen a students profile if they’re deferred.

Our DD was accepted yesterday (EA), with good merit and she submitted her 34 ACT score. She’s excited.

Ha ha. DP But obviously another post squeezed in before this poster was replying to the one above about narrow range of schools, biases etc.

My son was also deferred at St. Mary’s, a reach in his case. Applied test optional and college says they’d like to see test scores (?) and first semester grades.

PP here. Interesting. DD did not submit test scores either but had a GPA within their typical range and a full slate of IB and AP courses with leadership roles in ECs. I am wondering if SMCM penalized students who did not submit scores?

13:21 here. I would say they were adamant about their test optional-ness at our visit, almost to the point of saying “don’t bother”, but not quite. We were going to submit anyway.

Are the deferred PPs in or out if state? In state DC got in at SMCM with Trustee’s
Scholarship, 3.4 uw/4.1W, so so ECs, three APs, 1400 SAT.

PP whose son got deferred, 3.6 wgpa, no scores, Naviance said SMCM was a reach. He received a nice form letter in the portal yesterday. He was encouraged to submit additional materials.

PP w/deferred son again, Sorry, I meant to say congratulations to your daughter! It's a beautiful school, and the students seem very happy there.

In-state here deferred. 3.5 GPA UW 3APs, 3 IBs, impressive ECs. No SAT or ACT submitted.

Are you not submitting scores because you don't have any or because they are low. I've heard that if your kid goes to a private school where they took the SATs, not submitting those scores communicates to the school that they are low. Maybe public school kids who haven't been able to take the SATs are okay.

Anonymous wrote:Also deferred from Tulane. DC is fine with it, only applied because counselor suggested it and definitely didn't show more than a cursory interest. I'm more disappointed than DC because I think it's a great school. In at Fordham and a handful of UK schools.

What were DC’s stats?

34 ACT, 3.8 UW GPA, 4.4 W GPA, varsity sports since sophomore year, leadership roles in school and community service organizations.

Wow, DC was denied with those stats? I am shocked. She will get in someplace else great!

which UK schools PP?

Unconditional offers from Royal Holloway, St. Andrews, and Exeter. Conditional offer from Durham. Still waiting on Edinburgh. It's a much less stressful system, I must say.

I'd love to hear anything you have to share about the UK University process, PP. We're a couple years away from applications but DS has already voiced a lot of interest in applying to UK schools. Thanks!
