TJ is so done...

Maybe if the admissions folks didn't ask such BS questions on the essay tests and not actually cared about robotics camp the value of traditional prep would go down. The use of geographic quotas is just another sign suggesting that FCPS views it's job as redistributing political favors rather than teaching kids.

I'm really glad to hear that TJ is done being a toxic place and ready to improve by adopting these new and forward-thinking changes to improve its admissions!

Your basic point is that kids who have allegedly shown themselves to be adept in math (or whatever) should not be provided any programs specifically designed to cater to this ability. However, if a kid is adept in basketball, they do deserve such a program. Apparently winning basketball games is more important for you guys than providing supplemental education for students demonstrating proficiency. That says a lot about you, doesn't it?

The new admission policy ensures that more kids who need this enrichment get it whereas the old system only ensured kids who already got outside enrichment got it from the school too. This seems like a great and necessary change.

+1 This right here is the heart of the change. You can argue for or against it. But kudos to the above poster for articulating the change.

is the converse that FCPS's real job is to pretend that students going to failing schools don't exist and, above all, to ensure that they don't sully TJ?

I find it interesting how, insofar as gaming the system is considered a serious problem and the key reason why TJ is broken, the most reliable metric for trustworthiness, virtuous intent, and deservedness is assumed to be poverty. It reminds me a lot of the logic that says that destroying countries is supposed to help the people who live there - which a lot of people have tried to convince us is a good thing.

sure way to debate the straw man. People are saying that TJ has a negligible amount of URMs attending and that is a problem for a public magnet school. If you don't think that having a student body that is 1% African American at the only competitive magnet high school in the county is a problem, then Fairfax county is probably a little far north for you- perhaps rural Mississippi would be more to your liking?

I assume you are joking and not an idiot. FCPS needs to fix the failing schools and provide these children the education and enrichment that would allow them to be strong candidates without considering "experience factors."

and in the meantime, while that fails, keep them far away from better schools?

Bigots like you don't get to insinuate that others are racist. But whatever. Yeah, no, people are absolutely not laying off prep as being a key to the discussion whenever they try to deflect from anti-Asian/anti-immigrant prejudice as motivating the changes, so you probably need to look up what a strawman means.

Can you splain to me how race-blind admissions anti-anything or is this just an excuse that some use to justify opportunity hoarding?

Don't make the bigot think/research. He likes to keep it simple. He knows it all and that's that.

Guys. For all the Indian-American kids in TJ, with the "equity" admissions, you will all float to the tippy top of the class ranking. These kids will not be able to keep up with y'all, Y'all! The curve will be INSANE!!!
