TJ is so done...

It reminds me a lot of the logic that says that destroying countries is supposed to help the people who live there - which a lot of people have tried to convince us is a good thing.

sure way to debate the straw man. People are saying that TJ has a negligible amount of URMs attending and that is a problem for a public magnet school. If you don't think that having a student body that is 1% African American at the only competitive magnet high school in the county is a problem, then Fairfax county is probably a little far north for you- perhaps rural Mississippi would be more to your liking?

Bigots like you don't get to insinuate that others are racist. But whatever. Yeah, no, people are absolutely not laying off prep as being a key to the discussion whenever they try to deflect from anti-Asian/anti-immigrant prejudice as motivating the changes, so you probably need to look up what a strawman means.

Don't make the bigot think/research. He likes to keep it simple. He knows it all and that's that.

the school needs to be 75% asian otherwise the everyone is racist

Not everyone

You can either have a top-tier STEM magnet school or you can have a school that "looks like Fairfax" and has quotas. You can't have both.

This is still the truest statement in this entire thread.

Decide what you want, but there will be compromises.

They have. Do you think the board doesn’t know what will happen when they change the student pool?

Therefore the title of this thread

Can you splain to me how race-blind admissions anti-anything or is this just an excuse that some use to justify opportunity hoarding?

Per school minimum quota is a means of reducing the Asian population, because they are clustered in certain schools.
LCPS went further with Academy of Loudoun admissions by setting a per school maximum quota, taking away all the at large seats as well from Asians.

Loudoun County is White Supremacist territory. They aren’t just going to let you take over the Academy. That’s not happening.

I'm not familiar with any white supremacists there, but perhaps the Democrats that voted for the changes are returning to their racist roots.

Most of them are Republicans actually, but many Democratics too I guess.

The Republicans on the school board voted against the changes, supporting Asians having a large number of seats.

I can’t believe Dems are so brainwashed by their party they do not realize these changes are a liberal wing push, not some imaginary white supremacy plot by closeted members of the school board. Wake up you Wokies!

The R's on the board are against anything that is forward-looking like ensuring that all students get a shot at these programs. If it were up to them they'd return to the 1950s.

I wouldn't classify supporting greater inclusion for a race-blind selection process as racist. The old system seemed to favor kids who went to prep centers. The new one favors them a little less. It is likely these changes will have next to 0 impact on the caliber of students at TJ despite all histrionics here.

Your basic point is that kids who have allegedly shown themselves to be adept in math (or whatever) should not be provided any programs specifically designed to cater to this ability. However, if a kid is adept in basketball, they do deserve such a program. Apparently winning basketball games is more important for you guys than providing supplemental education for students demonstrating proficiency. That says a lot about you, doesn't it?

The new admission policy ensures that more kids who need this enrichment get it whereas the old system only ensured kids who already got outside enrichment got it from the school too. This seems like a great and necessary change.

BINGO

+1 This right here is the heart of the change. You can argue for or against it. But kudos to the above poster for articulating the change.

Couldn't agree more!
