Public performances is how they market themselves for the private events.
Not true. These mall and public events pay a lot to have performers there. I have a friend that worked for the marketing department at Potomac mills and they would pay their performers in the 400 dollar range.
I have another friend that was a librarian at a branch in Rockville and they would pay anywhere from 300 to 500 for performers. These shows are usually free to the public, but are paying their performers well.

I doubt Rockville Library ever paid $500.00 for any kids entertainment. That’s totally crazy. Public libraries never have that kind of funding.

Some performers do the public events for free since it's great advertising for them. I know we've found birthday party performers that way.

The libraries in MoCo do have a budget for events, some funded by the separate non-profit (Friends of the Library) that has more flexibility on spending. It's plausible that performers did get paid to perform at a library.
We have all found our bday entertainers at these shows, if we see someone real good. Have you ever mingled with the staff at any of the shows? I have. The shows are free to public, but the performers are crushing it. One person told me that not all entertainers are same rate, though.
Having been to a number of shows, I agree that nobody should hug the kids. I saw one performer at Dolly Madison library a year ago and after the show, saw a kid rush to hug entertainer, the guy put both hands straight up in the air, as kid went to hug him. A few of us, laughed about it.

You “guarantee” us Steve h Rossi was never alone with a child before or after a birthday party performance in a busy family home? Perhaps the Fairfax County police department would appreciate you sharing your source.

I am the PP that took his DD to many (maybe 50) performances. I can not speak for any child. But, I can assure you MY CHILD was never alone with him.

Well, well, my friend, aren’t you naive? Your favorite entertainer doesn’t need to be alone with your child. Mr Knick Knack apparently knows how to do his thing right in front of you! All parents here need to wise up, or your child can easily become a victim of some creepy guy.

If your child EVER says “Mr. So and So is creepy”, there’s your clue. You most likely have a pervert on your hands. Trust your kid. Don’t wait quietly for proof. Our job is to call Crime Solvers, and leave an anonymous tip. Report whatever your kid said. Let the investigators do their job. They’ll figure out if there’s anything inappropriate going on. Perhaps all they need is several parents (or kids) reporting similar grooming techniques perpetuated by the same guy. Don’t be afraid to share what may have happened. No one wants any child to be the victim of a perverted child molester.

PP here. Let me make this perfectly clear: 1) DD liked his music. We went from when she was about 1 year to about 3 years and something. At that age, DD did not know creepy. That was his target audience. ES kids would get creepy. Not two year olds. 2) Mr. KK was not my favorite performer. It was my DD's. I would much rather gone to weekly free concerts by Bruce Springsteen, but they were probably two loud for DD and frankly, less free.

I can not speak for private events -- I never hired him.

1. It’s astounding that any parent would take a 1 to 3 year old toddler to FIFTY performances by one man in two years. I frankly don’t believe you, but whatever.

2. After 50 shows, surely you’d know that even Steven Rossi reports his target audience is “under six”. Why are you claiming his target audience is 1-3 yr olds, Liar? I find your posts on this thread to be extremely odd.

3. The hundreds upon hundreds of private birthday parties gave him plenty of easy opportunities to molest children. If you study pedophilia, you learn that 60 year old men who are immersed in internet child pornography, are typically seeking real life opportunities to groom potential victims. Hence, his obsession with writing and singing very creepy songs to young children.

As explained above, molestation can occur right in public.

When I took my DCs, the kids at his shows were about ages 1 to 3. The shows I went to were in the morning on weekdays, so they weren’t for kids in elementary school or in preschool. Plus the content of the shows was for ages 1 to 3.

I’m not any of the PPs above.

This was definitely a person that is Creepy based on YouTube videos. The titles of songs are odd. I’ve seen other kid’s bands at festivals and nobody I can recall ever had questionable lyrics. Most of them we’re really good and I even caught myself singing along with daughter to a cd I bought, after show.

Im not poster you’re responding too, but he didn’t mention what the guy’s target range was, but that he took his daughter when she was 1-3 years old. It was his choice to go, and it’s not hard to believe he went to that many shows. If his daughter was a fan, then he took her to shows. Your reading comprehension needs work.

I am the PP. First, 50 shows is an estimate. Looking back on events that were 13-16 years ago. The only 5 or 6 yo's there were older siblings. You clearly had not been to his shows. It would not surprise me to find out you do not have kids. Kids love repetition. My DD seemed to love the shows. Our Sat morning were: breakfast at silver diner then Borders for the 10 or 10 the show (I do not remember exactly). I did not enjoy the shows, but enjoyed watching my DD have fun. By 4 she was no longer interested. By 5, we has sports practices on Sat AM.

I will say the majority of the show attendees were preschoolers and toddlers. Very few, if any, ES kids. His songs back then were not creepy. here are examples. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Mr.+Knick+Knack%21&i=digital-music&search-type=ss&ref=ntt_srch_drd_B005VRPR7S. I do not know if he got creepier after DD aged out. As for the kids surrounding him in the video, have you ever seen toddlers at a concert? They want to dance.

I am not defending him. I am saying my DD was never in danger.

Oh, and there is a notion of innocent until proven guilty (though I would not take my kid to see him based on his arrest).

My creep alarm went off immediately. At the time, I thought I was overreacting, but I asked my husband to immediately go over there and supervise.

They hide in plain sight and I absolutely believe he developed tricks over the years. Would not be shocked if inappropriate touching occurred with my daughter before I noticed the situation in my own backyard full of kids and parents.

Everyone here should see exactly how they operate “in plain sight”. We’re not having our kids in the same space with these creepy men. Just not worth the risk these days. Child porn is all over. Investigators can’t keep up.

What is wrong with you? Mr Knick knack is his own person who derailed his life, ended his career, and is going to jail for a crime he committed, as he should. You say, ‘they operate’ as if it’s an epidemic in this community of entertainers. We hear about a different teacher or coach every week, and it sucks to hear about, but we’ve heard about one performer doing this, in the decades I’ve lived in Northern Virginia. You are speculating that all men in this industry are predators and it’s unfair. Most men are not perps in this world.

Current child sex assault does seem to be mostly in the public schools. I would absolutely agree.

But please admit it’s vital that if you bring kids to these shows, it’s easy to become distracted, especially when you have 2 or 3 children with you, including a babe in arms. Parents and caregivers must be vigilant. You simply can not assume it’s a safe space.

I tend to believe that even if you’re personally distracted, so many parents are there, that someone is always watching entertainer. These stages are not open predatory places where that would occur. I’m not being snarky, because you we’re respectful in the way you approached the question with me, but have you been to these shows? My experience is that even if you’re distracted, so many people are watching performer.
Mr Knick knack is one person, but it’s unfair to paint the whole industry as a bunch of perverts. We’ve had the same entertainer in our living room for the past 3 bday parties, and my daughter has requested him again this year.

If your child’s entertainer is a man, I would simply be watching him like a hawk - with absolutely no other potential distractions.

Women simply do not sexually assault young children.
I believe that’s a fact.

When it comes to protecting children, better safe than sorry. I thought I was cautious and was protecting my kids until VBS 3 summers ago. The person in charge of training others about child safety and protocols (never be alone with a child) took my ds into a lounge, away from other adults and children and kept him there for 15 minutes. He said my child was bored and he showed him knick knacks (I know!) on a shelf in that room. My child knew he wasn't supposed to be alone with any adult there. He said, "But he's a TEACHER, Mom!" There are no words to describe the way I felt when I discovered that the guy who TRAINS clergy and parishioners how to avoid child victimization (including not being alone with children) was alone with my kid. It is forbidden, yet he did it. My child is adamant that nothing happened. Was the guy grooming my kid? Could he have violated my kid somehow? I'll never know for sure. That is why I am paranoid and will NEVER have my child alone with a man.

Children deserve to be safe from these evil predators.

This is why I think it’s a different scenario altogether. The entertainers, lots of them men, aren’t in a place where grooming to be alone, with child is going to occur, in my opinion. They aren’t alone, with kids ever. Also, I stand by the fact that Mr Knick knack is an anomaly and that most people are good people.
Your situation is more common. We hear about grooming situations with teachers, but having hired entertainers, they do show and leave. They don’t disappear upstairs.
