Sometimes teachers will tell you the number total that got in without using names and some parents are friends and talk. I think last year there was more talk than usual because everyone was sharing how their child got in the wait pool due to the mistaken letters. We did not find out until the open house who actually got in and it really hit home how random the whole thing can be. The few kid who did get in were top performers so no surprise there but there are easily 10 other kids in the grade at the same level as the kids who were admitted and their absence was jarring for DD. |
Why confused? For the more competitive CES everyone who got in had 99th percentile national scores. MCPS scores varied. |
| So today was rejections? Did anyone get an acceptance in today's mail? |
I wouldn't take these results to heart. You child could have easily scored 99th percentile on a different day. Cogat screener is not that reliable. |
Those are low scores to be considered for a selective program, OP. No one with low scores is getting in. |
Keep the last bolded in mind, confused PP. |
|
I wouldn't assume those low scores are from trolls but we know that different centers have different average scores. They were rezoned that way so the rich kids are competing mostly with rich kids and Chevy Chase is much harder to get into than some other schools.
Maybe that PP who posted the low waitlist scores comes from a less wealthy catchment area and the child has perfect MAP scores and straight As. |

Low scores may be the result of one test but not indicative of a child’s abilities. My child (rejected) scored low on the Cogat but has all As, 96-99% MAP consistently and high inView scores. I have a motivated child who consistently does well and just so happened not to score well on this particular test. Don’t assume trolls are posting low scores and don’t assume that someone with a low score isn’t a bright student overall. |

Bethesda Elementary. |
| Rejected from PBES. 87% MCPS 97% National. |
I imagine this means there will only be one class in the local center next year? |
| So, what does that mean if the national is way higher than mcps? I'm not appealing, just wondering what it means and how it relates to enrichment mentioned in the letter. |
