Could have been absolutely anyone at Wilson or Ellington.

Didn't admit anything until IG investigation. He knew what he was doing was wrong. Should be fired for cause with NO severance and getting the signing bonus back. DC deserves better than his PR campaign.

Yes but IG probably investigated based on a tip.

I think Silverman's statement is 100 percent accurate and hits on all the reasons why this is so shameful.

I still can't believe he thought he could get away with breaking his own damn policy within 12 months of writing it.

He is new to the area and trying to navigate a lot in a short amount of time, with a very high profile, visible position. It should be part of the deal. When Rhee came no one gave a crap about the fact that she stuck her kid in a sought after school. She used her privileges not just for her self, but her cronies too. No problem. Kaya does it and it's a problem. Wilson does it and you want his head! Why can't you accept that some positions have perks? I think being a Chancellor is one of them.

a lot of things have changed. I was shocked there wasn't more outrage when Fenty got his kids into Lafayette. The second time there was. As more middle-class upper-middle-class dc families buy into the system, the old ways are not going to fly.

I cannot believe the Mayor did not know where his daughter was going to school. When you have a meeting with someone, don't you make small talk along the lines of "How are the kids settling in? How is it going for your daughter at Ellington? Oh, she left? So where is she now? Wilson? Huh?"

How did they NOT think this was going to get out? I would have thought a parent at one of those endless community forums, or a small meet-and-greet, would have asked at some point, "So where do YOUR kids go to school?" I asked it of the cabinet official who was pushing the Family Shelter into our horribly overcrowded elementary school knowing she also lived in Ward 3. (Turns out her kids go to GDS.)

SIX MONTHS! His daughter has been there for almost SIX MONTHS!! I feel bad for her, and I'm certain they didn't really think about where they decided to live once they got through the lottery process, but this is so bad.

At least now I know why DCPS failed to put out a statement in the wake of Wednesday's massacre in Parkland, reassuring parents about how they keep our kids safe and assess students for warning signs. I thought it was odd that I had heard from the two private schools our middle schoolers attend, but nothing from our elementary school, the Mayor, or the Superintendent. Now I know they were preoccupied, once again, with a self-inflicted wound and not having the bandwidth to focus on the bigger picture.

I know the mayor a bit. I would be surprised if she inquired after his children. She’s pretty much all business with her staff and cabinet -not a lot of small talk.

I am certain that someone who has been let go or threatened by the attendance scandal ratted him out to the IG.

The bureaucracy fighting back.

So he will eventually leave. We will start over (again). Nothing will change.

I make $30k, zoned for Wilson and I don't want my kid going to Wilson. He risks his career to send his kid there. What am I missing?

He believed it because he has poor character. And now his child, in addition to having trouble fitting into a school, will have memorialized for life the fact that her dad is unethical.

Because many people (including past presidents of our country) talk about what's appropriate for the children of others but want their OWN children to attend private schools or only the best public schools. Of course, they think that's just fine.

The Mayor knew...or said, "Now don't tell me where your daughter is enrolled. I don't want to know."

not a fan of rhee but her ex husband lived in boundary for oyster and deal in those days. so her kids went to their neighborhood schools for real.

Agreed about Wilson but then imagine how bad the other schools are. He has to use public so he has few options. Wonder why Ellington didn’t work out? I have herd things about it and this makes me wonder if they are true.

My suspicion is that they used pull to get in her and then were shocked to find that at Ellington they actually expect a kid who got in for music to be able to play the instrument or a kid who got in for art to produce the art. I could see it being a real shock to be put on the spot like that. I mean, isn't it a common recurring nightmare to be in public expected to do something you have no idea how to do?

Well, you should, because the people you are cheating are not the ones who did wrong here.

If it’s good enough for the Chancellor and Deputy Mayor to find it acceptable, then I’m completely fine with my choices. Maybe I’ll get caught like they did, but I doubt it.

So you are fine with yourself being a dishonest person just because people in positions of power also do it? Yikes. Who else do you look to for moral inspiration?
