Cast of Hamilton makes statement to Pence at the end of the show.

This, 1,000 times this. And given the popular vote, it is more true. However, given what we understand of the economic plan, it may be to create as much chaos as possible and sell out to the Oligarchs before the next election. A new world order indeed.

Scary days.

Guess what, Hamilton is a political show with the political message "Immigrants get things done."

So I doubt you would have ever seen it in the first place. At any rate, it's sold out for months to come so you'd not be able to get tickets anyway unless you were a VIP calling up the producers.

You are correct. But if the actors were not able to deliver that message through the action in the show, they are a big failure. This is what art for.

They had to play connect the dots after the show to Pence would fully understand it.

Hamilton was Hillary's play. She brought several people to several shows during the campaign. Oh right, she was too busy smoozing with the elite and forgot to campaign where it counted.

I don't even understand why Pence would want to see a show that so vehemently disagrees with his personal view of the world. Did he know there were GAY people in the show?

Huh. Makes one wonder if perhaps the media reporting is full of crap

Well, no. Pence doesn't deny his anti-gay policy proposals as governor. It's all public record and he stands by it. Makes me thing you're full of crap.

Snopes doesn't agree with you re: conversion therapy. Someone here posted a link to it claiming that he did and clearly didn't read the Snopes headline. LOL

After a grueling long week of work, the poor guy just wanted to enjoy some "arts" and relax. Instead he got treated with some political BS. They ought to refund his tickets.

If he doesn't want "political BS," would he have been a member of Congress, the Governor of Indiana, and the Vice President-elect? The guy doesn't know how to do anything besides "political BS."

Just another reason to divide people in this country. As a non-Trump voter, I am so sick of it. The whole point was to make him feel uncomfortable and turn the crowd against hime. Disgusting.

Could you imagine if anyone had such disrespect for Obama/Biden.

The crowd booed Pence when he came in. They needed no help from the cast to be "turned against" Pence. Then, the cast message was delivered after the curtain call as he was walking out the door. Probably not the best time to do something if you wanted to turn the (already biased) crowd against Pence.

Words and actions have consequences. The consequences of Pence's actions and words as governor of Indiana are to make him disliked by liberals (including all the people in the audience who booed him), and the consequences of Trumps words and actions in his appointments so far are to make people fear what he will be like as president.

It is not the job of the people to unify under the president. It is the job of the president to convince the people he represents all of them.

Just as Abraham Lincoln did -- oh wait!

Just because Pence didn't overtly come out in support of conversion therapy doesn't mean he isn't on record supporting other anti-LBGT measures.

Here is Mike Pence's Agenda for the 107th Congress: http://web.archive.org/web/20010408125427/http://mikepence.com/issues.html

In the "Strengthening the American Family" section, you will find the following words:

"Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior."

i have no problem if the cast member delivered the same message privately after the show (or before). But to do it publicly makes it a partisan and inappropriate statement.

What's next, will national anthem signers at ball games make personal statements in front of 40,000 people after singing the anthem. Will metro train drives start making annoucements over the intercom on the Red Line? Is that also appropriate? No, because that is not the time or place for expressing their personal opinions.

I simply disagree. Well, maybe the WMATA one, because it is quasi-government, but otherwise, entertainers, athletes and regular Americans have the right to express themselves when and where they want. Just because you are uncomfortable with the message doesn't make your opinion right. You probably agree that is ok for a town to display a manger scene at Christmas time (I do), but possibly object to Channukah lights as well? It isn't dis-similar, other than the religious component.

If you don't like it, then don't go to the play or download its soundtrack.

I think if someone is being paid to work or perform, then they are doing a disservice to their employer if they take advantage of their paid position to express personal opinions that are not in any way related to the job they are being paid for.

I give lots of speeches on behalf of my employer. If I expressed highly political or personal opinions during those speeches I would be fired immediately because that is not what I am being paid for and because my actions will certainly alienate some of my employer's potential clients and customers who heard my comments.

If they want to express their opinions while off-duty that is obviously fine with me, but not while on the job.

+! Exactly!!

But their employer and the creator of the show wrote the statement for them, so they weren't doing anything against their employer's wishes.

It does seem arrogant and entitled.

What's arrogant and entitled is Pence demanding tickets to a sold out show for himself, family and secret service.

Well done, LMM and the rest. Pence needs to get confronted with the views he disagrees with and confronted, respectfully, by the people he's trying to harm or affect. That's democracy. Expressing viewpoints and protesting. Why should he be in a protected bubble?

Theatres keep a set of seats set aside for each performance for VIPs & family & friends of the cast and show's producers/director/creator/etc.
those seats that aren't used are sold to the cancellation line or given out by lottery.

Lincoln didn't have such a great night at the theatre either. The parallels are astonishing.

Of all the comments in this thread, the ones that keep saying that this was some kind of corruption or abuse of power are some of the sillier ones. Every sold out show has some tickets on reserve for VIPs. If they don't get taken by showtime they are released.

Hotels do the same thing and so do popular restaurants. It has everything to do with the celebrity status of the person making the request and nothing to do with their political affiliation.

That's his day job. No matter how much he loves his job, he needs to unwind. Can't liberals be a little respectful and give him a break on Friday night?
