Possible Rape at Sidwell?

Anonymous
to all you naysayers claiming the victim and perp were just caught in the act of consensual sex and she cried rape to protect herself, think about this: If the kids were observed, wouldn't admin have been notified stat? wouldn't parents have been called in to campus, and wouldn't the police report have occurred way earlier? Most likely the victim went home, talked to her family and then the parents called the cops?

And I personally DO want to know the suspect's name, cos if he leaves Sidwell, will he end up at school with my kids? I know I likely won't learn the name unless he is charged as an adult...

Wow. Class teacher at that place.

My DS at Sidwell was taught the meaning of consent, including affirmative consent and respecting that a partner can withdraw consent at any time, during classes at HS.

I'm hoping those who suggest the girl's story is fishy based on no actual knowledge are not Sidwell parents.

You refer to teachers and Admin breaking ranks and talking to reporters on background only in the Daily Beast.

Well, that is what happens when you admit mostly families from a certain political/media elite from the Washington fishbowl.

They are basically just talking off the record to their fellow journalist friends.

there is always someone every few years getting busted " in the act " at school so we know sex goes on.

That is not scandal

Now, the question is how do parents in NW DC Privates behave when they think their DC was wronged be it a C on a test or not enough play time on a sport.

I have no idea what happened in that bathroom, but my gut is that the official story has parents written all over it.

So I guess the question is whether they were having sex or whether she was being raped. Of course those things are not the same. I was violently raped in college by someone I had dated very briefly months before. He tricked me into walking with him through a secluded area by telling me his mother, whom I had met at parents' weekend, had been in a car accident and he wanted to talk but also needed to walk to a far parking lot at school to get his car to pack it up and drive home. It was all a lie. I never reported him. I knew better. I don't know if the Sidwell girl was raped or not. If my daughter were raped, though, I would show her this thread and let her think before deciding what to do. If you report, you go through this blame/doubt/slut shame the victim crap, if you don't, you live with not confronting your aggressor and living with a secret that should not be shameful but feels that way. There's no winning, there's just deciding which scars are worse.

PP, I am very sorry that you were raped. Reading what you wrote though a contrast jumps out at me:

you were lured to an isolated spot where it was unlikely that anyone would hear you or come along

Whatever happened in that bathroom, it is a public bathroom with a door that does not lock and anyone could walk in at any time.

BIG difference.

Do we know for a fact that this incident took place in a bathroom? I have not seen that reported anywhere.

Thank you for posting; this is a small detail but how did she end up in a boys/ men's bathroom (we assume?) in the first place? Or, did he follow her into the ladies' room?

Please just stop with the insinuation that the victim is at fault or lying. In the absence of any actual information, the only thing it shows is your preconceptions.

I coud not imagine this happening in the upper school until i saw it mentioned that was in athletic center. The basement has way too many rooms and not many people down there. They need to reconfigure that space not there so it is more open and secure. Too many bathrooms for sure.

In our society we are to presume innocence until proven guilty. We have seen too many false arose accusations recently to believe automatically assume every road cry is true.

Conjuecture at this point is counterproductive.

+1000 Horrendous!
Accusation is not the same as actuality as we have seen all too often lately. Innocent until proven guilty.
I have to agree. Let's wait for more facts. I'm sure this investigation will be extremely thorough and swift.

This is one of Sidwell School's newest school building on campus. You think
they would of built it with security in mind.

+1

As a new Sidwell parent I have to say, this bothers me as much as anything. I'm hoping that was the editorializing of an overly-zealous "reporter."
