Other countries may be set up differently. But this is how we are set up and it has worked well for us. We will find out soon if it will continue working well. Fwiw, I think it will, DH thinks it won't.

The protections we've relied upon take time. Musk could funnel billions into his pocket for "efficiency" in minutes.

The Judiciary has no means of enforcement. And at least two members of SCOTUS have been bought.

The Executive enforces the decisions of the Judiciary. What makes you think Trump is going to do that? That's why this is a crisis. There are no longer checks and balances.

I am alarmed, but those barricades have been there for months. They got erected in anticipation of Harris winning and another J6 riot. Then they kept them up for the inauguration. Now they are just....there. But they aren't new.

Trump is somewhat a fan of Andrew Jackson who notoriously refused to follow or enforce Supreme Court rulings.

We CANNOT count on the Supreme Court to intervene. Even if they don't just rubberstamp and rule in Trump's favor, he won't necessarily follow their rulings. He does not believe the other separate, co-equal branches have any power over him.

There were significantly more rings of barricades around the White House during his last term, and the barricades and security was far more robust than it is now. You couldn't even see the White House from most angles anymore. I suspect we will quickly return to that and worse. Wouldn't be surprised if we see armored vehicles parked around the White House soon.
