Yes. If tomorrow is remotely as bad as it’s looking to be, it will need to be a Seoul moment. |
The treasury just pays the bills for expenses that have been authorized elsewhere. By the time it gets there it is with money already obligated and authorized by Congress. If the Administration does not like the bills that are being paid, they need to go back to the authorizing agency to review so they make recommendations to the budget not to do those things again. If there is a belief that the payments are improper, again, that’s a case for the authorizing agency. The USG pays for some insanely dumb stuff, but stiffing the vendor for services already rendered is not how it works. |
they're putting barricades around the White House https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/1ifx8qu/concrete_barricades_going_up_around_white_house/ |
Actually, that is a pretty characteristic way of doing business for a certain someone. |
This is all playing out remarkably similarly to the Civil War movie. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt17279496/ |
Then they must realize Americans are getting pissed off. Barricades are not going to change the mood of the country. |
It's not. I've worked with Lutheran Social Services. All our refugee settlement programs are contracted out. |
Elon and the Breakfast Club have been working all weekend stopping payments to things they don't like - ie, the poor Lutherans (and apparently some of those are block grants for foster kids care - oh well).
So tomorrow the SHTF when people find their money is cut off. Also, we know they're firing 70% of OPM and 30% of the rest of the government. Any court orders that are issued will be ignored - tomorrow I believe the judge is to rule on the TRO for the grant funding. I consider that the true "Constitutional crisis moment." And who knows what ICE is planning. Hence the barricades in front of the White House. They WANT people to protest so Trump can declare an emergency and put military on the streets. |
I think they requested access so they can understand the technology behind it and come up with an alternative product.
Must svd his bros just want to get richer and one way to get richer is to have the federal government as a customer. And the fed government is a great customer because it is a constant payer DOGE is to distract you. Musk's goal is simply to expand his (or his friends) business opportunities thas all. So don't be distracted. |
Is Musk stopping payments? Or just tweeting about them? If he is stopping authorized payments, then he cannot do that. No matter how not-DOGE they are. |
Maybe - but I don't think that's what Musk is doing. He is trying to "efficient" the government - the same way he efficiented Twitter. Note that now Twitter is barely solvent and is unreliable, sometimes nonfunctional. So we can see how successful he will be, if he is allowed to continue. |
Why can't he do that? Who will stop him? |
Congress could. If they won't, the courts can and will. In this country, our court system is the most powerful of the 3 branches. Project 2025 talks about overturning Marbury v Madison - but that's just talk and they cannot do it without a lot of consent from everyone else. Which they won't get. Other countries may be set up differently. But this is how we are set up and it has worked well for us. We will find out soon if it will continue working well. Fwiw, I think it will, DH thinks it won't. |
They’ve already bypassed Congress. Musk is not even an employee of the US government. He blew through every safeguard in place. |
So what happens if the courts decisions are ignored? Is anyone going to enforce the decisions? Are we going to end up with confrontations between enforcement agencies? |
