...And the mom was like, I don’t believe in abortion. I believe in adoption.


But then, a few weeks after that first appointment, the girl came back with her mom and wanted to get an abortion. And remember, the clock is ticking.

I had everything ready to go. I called the lawyers, and the lawyers went, mm, I don’t think so. ... we need to know whether or not there’s a heartbeat. I was like, but we don’t, right? Oh, and then she said, not only does she need an ultrasound, you need to wait 24 hours before you can give her medicine.

And it’s interesting because the advice you got was not necessarily following the letter of the law. But what the law does is create this culture of anxiety around what is supposed to be done at this very critical moment.

I think this is part of where the problem is. These laws are so ambiguous. This isn’t necessarily a criticism of the lawyers who are helping me. They were being hugely conservative in their advice to me. They were trying to help me.

But the issue is, what a lawyer interprets as conservative and what I then have to live on the ground when I’m telling this to a family, it’s they’re just different things.

So I had to go back into this room and tell this family. And I took the kid and her mom to the ultrasound suite. And it was, without a doubt, one of the worst experiences of my life because this kid just sobbed through the whole thing. And her mom sobbed through the whole thing, and my nurse sobbed through the whole thing. And of course, now, it’s been three weeks, and now there is a heartbeat.

And I have to say all this junk — I’m obligated to inform you that there is a heartbeat. And this kid just can’t even get words out. And she’s just shaking her head. I’m obligated to let you know that you may have pictures of this. Would you like your picture? ...none of that was necessary.

Dr. Tomlin asked them to come back the next day, following the lawyer’s advice. They did, and she gave the patient abortion medication.

And so, we did it. Great. Now I have to call the sheriff.

Women who want access to elective abortion use stories like this to influence people.

The vast majority of abortions are elective abortion, and aren’t because the girl/woman was raped or has medical issues.

If women would stop using elective abortion as birth control, and instead abortion was used by women who were the victims of rape or incest, the abortion rate would drop drastically.

The mere fact that some women use the stories of woman and girls who have been raped or have horrific health issues as a way to justify and protect their elective abortions is infuriating.

What a hypocrite. You probably protest that you believe in abortion when a woman is raped. But that fetus has the same status you give to a fetus in the uterus of a woman whose birth control failed. That is, in either case neither fetus controls the circumstances of their conception. True consistency would be for you to say no exceptions for rape even for 12 year old girls but you know how much of a monster that makes you. So you acknowledge it is okay to favor one woman’s choice over another because of personal circumstance. You just refuse to listen to the circumstances of the women who don’t want to carry to term, rejecting them all as “convenience” decisions as if that is a moral smear against them.

At least the pro-choice people are consistent - we believe a woman or girl already in this world should have the final decision of whether to agree to gestate an embryo that implanted to term. Because we value their lives over the potential life dependent on those women and girls’ bodies. And we recognize we are not living their experience and can’t make that decision for them.

People who support second or third term abortions should read about what the babies endure during the abortion process. Ripping off limbs is horrific especially considering they start to feel pain about 13 weeks gestation. I've listened to interviews with abortion providers and it makes me sick what is happening. There is a reason a majority of ob/gyns will not perform abortions.

Over 98% of women who have elective abortions are not forced by anyone to become pregnant; they are pregnant because they had consensual sexual relations with a man and became pregnant. How did anyone other than the woman and her partner cause the woman to become pregnant? No one made the 2 people have sex. No one is forcing pregnancy on women in those cases. Because they had a choice to not get pregnant in the first place. It is so morally debased to treat fetuses as the disposable victims of a choice to get pregnant. The message has devolved to “girl dads” must champion elective killings of fetuses for their daughters any 8 months killings and dismemberment of babies in utero must be allowed (instead of birthing the child). A fetus isn't a child. Fetch isn't going to happen here. If you believe a fetus is a child, then don't have an abortion yourself. Do not tell me r anyone else what we should do. It is none of your business.

I delivered twins during my 20th week of pregnancy. Don't tell me that at 20 weeks a baby is a "bag of cells." They were tiny little human beings. If you held your children in your arms and watched them die like I did, you would support restrictions on abortion to the first trimester. I don't know the numbers, but I believe a large number of abortions that happen in the second trimester is due to the advent of advanced genetic testing that takes place 18 weeks. To me, it is horrifying that people will terminate pregnancies due to genetic abnormalities like Downs Syndrome, or even the wrong sex.

Agree, as someone who generally supports a right to abortion in the first trimester. It is horrifying that people terminate at twenty weeks.

People who support second or third term abortions should read about what the babies endure during the abortion process. Ripping off limbs is horrific especially considering they start to feel pain about 13 weeks gestation. I've listened to interviews with abortion providers and it makes me sick what is happening. There is a reason a majority of ob/gyns will not perform abortions.

They don’t care. They are invested in pretending a fetus is not alive nor a human, and magically appears in a woman’s uterus because republicans cast an evil pregnancy spell across America every day and force women to become pregnant. Or something like that. Who really knows, they are deeply committed to denial and blaming other people for their unwanted pregnancies. Their own children are disposable and unworthy of love.

Yes, it is horrific and the babies don’t receive pain medication because that would humanize them.

You would force a 12 year old baby to deliver her rapist’s child. Sicko.

That video ignores the indisputable facts that almost all surgical killings of fetuses and medicinal poisonings are elective choices because the woman simply does not want a child.

Why are you so insistent that women who don’t want children be forced to have them? That doesn’t sound good for the women or the children.

Not a single person here is insisting a woman be forced to have children. The fetus killed during abortion is your child, as you state.

Over 98% of women who have elective abortions are not forced by anyone to become pregnant; they are pregnant because they had consensual sexual relations with a man and became pregnant. How did anyone other than the woman and her partner cause the woman to become pregnant? No one made the 2 people have sex. No one is forcing pregnancy on women in those cases. Are you blaming the biological process of pregnancy on other people? If so just know nobody has the power to force women to become pregnant. Rape accounts for less than 1% of abortions.

So you are judging the women for the means by which they became pregnant and if that does not align with your moral world you would deny them the ability to stop that pregnancy from developing. Because you feel morally superior to those women and girls so they must be trapped for 9 months and go through the horrific pain of labor and delivery and out their body through a dangerous process that always has the potential to kill them because you disapprove of how they got pregnant.

Women get pregnant through sexual intercourse, that’s not a judgement, it’s reality.

When a pregnancy is “stopped from developing,” the child is killed. Saying things like “the pregnancy is stopped from developing” is a sanitized way of ignoring the death of your child.
