Hayfield Football Coach Fired

This would be issue for me to have parents on field that are not vetted coaches. More I read more I get the comments about using schools for free field access and other business ventures. Shameful now seems with Reid approval. Maybe this is good distraction for FCPS from other matters is why don’t shut it down more.

She is not a parent- so issue is adult or anyone on field not fully vetted by FCPS with access to kids.

But does FCPS allow exceptions for team chaplains? If she is part of the coaching staff for example? Probably the school’s activities office keeps the official coaching roster.

They dont, but next year Hayfield football wouldnt be play anyone in the National District, theyll be moving to a more competitive district

When is the last time an FCPS school has changed districts without either growing or shrinking? Moving them is an admission that they're cheating and not just on a good run with a couple of talented players who will graduate. The real powerhouse schools will play other schools on a more national schedule, but Hayfield doesn't have that kind of money

The previous football HC Said Aziz changed Hayfield Footballs schedule to the National District when he came in the 2021-2022 season

Yes. Hayfield was in the now defunct Gunston before that, and the more competitive Liberty District with the two N Arlington and the McLean / Vienna / Reston schools before that. Due to the new regions Hayfield cannot rejoin Liberty but they should probably move up to the Patriot District. Next realignment is in 2027 however.

Not listed on school roster pages available to public. Anyone from Hatfield know here to confirm she is listed officially on school roster that has been shared with parents?

"Team Chaplain" is not a public school position, good lord, can you imagine the controversy? They would need to rotate in people of all different religions and non-religions.

She only shows up on game days and pregame days, she just talks to the players about college recruitment and teaches them lessons on how to be calm and collected and what not, she doesn't spew any religious rhetoric.

If the Hayfield football parents and players are okay with that then there’s probably nothing to see here. The coach just has an entourage of inspirational leaders, coaches, or whatever. There’s probably no FCPS policy that states that an entourage cannot be on the sidelines during games.

Who hired this person? Who vetted this person? Who ran background check and fingerprints? Who decided this individual was qualified to instruct students on these topics? Who is supervising to make sure she does even mention one word about religion?

What a hot mess this whole situation is!

She posted a video mocking one of the losing teams and she is the "inspirational" leader? Appalling and gross.

Why is there a new insta post with a Hayfield player with In God We Trust gloves and the quote “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
~Psalm 20:7”

If a player or family was NOT comfortable with getting weird lectures from this creep, they would not want to speak up and rock the boat.

The mom who complained about kids using addresses on streets that didn't exist had a son who was bullied so badly by the coach after she started asking questions that he had to transfer schools.

Its not right to put players and families in this position of having to deal with an entourage of clowns and hanger-ons. They have guidance counselors for these topics.

Given the diversity of FCPS school students religious beliefs (Christian, atheists, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhists etc etc etc), I can't imagine how one "spiritual advisor"--no matter how well meaning--could appropriately offer any kind of guidance or advise in a way that doesn't offend someone's beliefs.

Someone giving themselves the title of "Apostle" and who runs their own speaking-in-tongues-handling snakes style church? No freaking way is this person behaving in a way inclusive of all beliefs and non-beliefs.

Coach Overton is showing incredibly poor judgment (seems par for the course with him) in allowing strangers access to the players. It puts the players who don't believe in a particular set of evangelical Christian beliefs in a very uncomfortable position and it is wildly inappropriate for a public school coach to bring in a random person to evangelize on a public school team.

You would think there would be some more careful supervision of creeps having access to the players after the drug scandal.

Did any news source ever post non-profit tax filings for Playmaker Elite Athletic Training? The Playmaker website still up, but news article from summer said business terminated. IRS site shows just shows below if out in EIN #46-3993016 (but maybe that is wrong one). Anyone ever see the 990s?

So see people posting that student cost at FCPS is $19k of taxpayer money. Other posts question fundraising. Article on above link says: “In the latest session of the Virginia state legislature, state Delegate Candi King (D-Woodbridge) submitted an amendment to dole out $100,000 to Playmakers Elite Athletic Training over a two-year period from the state’s general fund. The amendment noted that the money was “to support” Playmakers Elite Athletic Training. The amendment described the organization as a “youth sports fitness and training organization for boys and girls ages five to eighteen.” A staffer said the amendment didn’t make it out of the House Appropriations Committee.”
