In 2018 or 2019, a kid from Annandale HS was killed by a gang.

You’ll eventually see that an incident at a so-called “bad” school doesn’t count. Posters believe that certain schools have no problems with drugs or gangs. They simply don’t exist at some schools.

If they are rezoned anyway, they will simply decline to send them.

No one wants their daughter to end up like the young woman still fighting FCPS for what happened to her at Rachel Carson and their part in it, and if they have the money to avoid sending her somewhere like that they will consider it money well spent.

That middle school is pretty affluent though isn’t it? Looks like it’s only 16% FARMS, which is comparable to Irving and Thoreau, both of which have solid reputations.

Someone once posted here that “almost” every FCPS high and middle school has MS-13.

Um, no.
DP

NP. Name one FCPS HS that doesn’t have MS-13.

While I have no doubt there is an MS-13 presence within several FCPS high schools, I am certain they’re not in the majority of schools. Why don’t you provide proof of which schools you claim they’re in?

http://m.connectionnewspapers.com/news/2004/nov/17/gangs-do-exist-in-fairfax-county-police-say/

From as far back as 2004 …

“There is at least one gang member in every school in Fairfax County, police officers told a stunned audience in Great Falls Tuesday night. Students are often exposed to gang members by the time they reach middle school, making elementary schools the optimum time to teach children that joining a gang is not a good idea.”

Anything more recent than 2004?

It’s crazy to post a quote from 20 years ago! Fairfax County did a lot of work to address gang problems back then. I am sure it’s better now than it was then.

OK. Proof that it went down? Or is that just a feeling too? Do you think there are more or less gang issues in the county than in 2004? That number will be commiserate with what we see in schools.

The gang prevention unit started in 1997.

How have the SROs been doing at FCPS?

DP. You're the one insisting MS-13 is present in all FCPS schools. So it falls on YOU to provide proof. We're waiting.

I provided the best available that I could find which was what police reported years ago (that gangs were present in every HS). Now it is your turn to prove that the situation has improved since then. FCPS isn’t very transparent, so good luck.

Ha, nope. Your 20 yr old article holds zero weight. Try again. We’re still waiting on current proof that there are MS-13 members in all FCPS high schools. We won’t hold our breath.

So you deny the presence of gangs?? Once they are in, they are in.

So you admit you are wholly unable to back up your claim here in 2024. Thanks for playing.

DP. Let's assume there is no MS-13 presence in some HS in FCPS (the old article from 2004 didn't quote FCPD as saying that every school had MS-13, only that there were gang members in every school, based on a broad definition of "gang").

What does that mean when it comes to boundaries? That they've been gerrymandered in the past to keep any lower-income kids most susceptible to Hispanic gangs out of Langley? That FCPS's main goal in looking at boundaries should be to bless every school with MS-13 members? Sometimes you people go off on tangents and the relevance, if any, to the thread gets lost. Although creating a distraction may in fact may be the goal.

Work session on revising the boundary policy now scheduled for May 28th.

This is about the boundary policy, not actual boundaries, but the discussion will shed light on their intentions.

Where do you see the 5/28 work session on boundary policy listed?

1. Go to the FCPS School Board site.
2. Click on "Board Docs."
3. Go to "Library."
4. Go to "Annual Work Calendar."
5. Look at "2023-2024 School Board Annual Work Calendar" (updated 3/20/24).
Anonymous
Thanks- I only looked on the meeting list on BoardDocs. I wonder how much that annual work calendar document changes.

It seems like they update the calendar every couple of weeks or so.

At last week’s school board meeting, board members reiterated their desire to pursue a broader, “holistic” approach to boundary changes that could reduce overcrowding across all schools.

DP and I’m not saying there are gangs in all the MS/HS, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were or at least in 80%+ of the schools. However if anything the gang problem has gotten worse in 20 years’ time. There are more recent arrivals and more illegal immigration now.
