J6 was not a "federal set-up" you insane a-hole. |
That’s quite a definition of “minimized.” |
I’m impressed with the restraint, calm, and training of the snipers on top of the White House. |
I've participated in many a protest. When you are in a safe, freedom of speech setting like, you know, America--nasty, undisciplined displays don't endear me, no matter the cause. It's like, oh yay, antifa. |
Wrecking Lafayette Park. Totally missing the ENTIRE POINT of Lafayette? Palestinian protestors and allies are absolutely tone-deaf and their own worst enemies. |
Yeah I know but it could have been much worse. There was obvious message discipline here to ensure that “from the river to the sea” was the extent of it (with of course the *coincidental* high profile efforts of Rep Tlaib to sanitize the phrase happening at the exact same time). A committee sat down and decided just how far to go. |
It would certainly be a step in the right direction, but it wouldn't end the way instantly. Hamas still needs to be rooted out |
I’ve been reading the news coverage of the protest and no mention of antisemitism in the mainstream press (cnn, NYT, Washington post, NPR, The Hill). Just in the Daily Mail (link in PP above) Fox and the Guardian.
Was anyone on this thread actually at the event and would share what they saw? |
Did you see a collection of swastikas or neo Nazi symbols such as some have reported at the London March for example? Or shouts to eliminate Jews? I am not talking about “river to the sea” and other chants that people disagree on, but “kill the Jews” which sort of stands on its own. Those are the things that were hopefully avoided. |
The protest was not organized to call for the release of the hostages. It was organized to draw attention to the suffering of the Palestinian people and call for a cease - fire. There are many other ways the attention has been on the hostages (the posters, profiles on network TV, politicians statements, etc etc). |
There are photos of red paint on the white house perimeter walls and that Lafeyette Park which is the nation's park was trashed. I find that offensive. I also didn't like when the aliens blew up the White House in Independence Day. These iconic buildings were targets on 9/11. Maybe offending me was the point if this display? The protestors succeeded. I dislike them. |
It was a very large global event so no one can speak definitively about what happened everywhere. In DC, it was mostly young people who are horrified by the slaughter in Gaza and called for a ceasefire. They are very upset and don’t understand “blind” support for Israel’s extensive bombing. They see helpless people who have been denied many rights for a long time, who are trapped and being starved and attacked with weapons the U.S. provided. |
I was there from 3-5:30. I saw people of all colors (including many self-identified Jewish people), families with young children, calling for an end to the wanton bombing and for Biden to stop supporting this with our tax dollars. It was extremely peaceful, and I never heard anyone speak against Jews or praise Hamas. |
+1 The protestors have also effectively neutralized Democratic use of 1/6 footage as anti-Trump campaign material and for that I dislike them as well. |
And a ceasefire isn't going to happen without the release of hostages. The call for the return of the hostages and hostage awareness needs to come from within, not just from Jewish sources. It can be part of the call for a ceasefire, rather than an unconditional call, which is mostly what I've seen. |
