What do the non mask wearers think today when they see someone wearing a mask

I may be wrong but the people I know IRL who mask religiously are more worried now about long term issues. Seems like some people are concerned about the long game and they have that “luxury” - in the sense that they don’t have to worry about ruining a child’s senior year by insisting on masks or not allowing them to go to events or whatever bc they don’t have school age kids.

This is all correct.

No one is still suggesting events be canceled or everyone mask in schools. Relax. People who are still masking are simply trying to protect themselves or their family. It doesn’t require anything of you so you can stop being bitter about it.

I wouldn't say people are bitter. Puzzled, yes. Wearing masks is one of the most visible things to do that does send out strong signals, whether you like it or not, which is why people talk about it. I'm not the only person on here who's spent time in other cities or countries where there's virtually no masking left, yet all the reasons given on here in the DMV would also apply to these places, but somehow the population and culture think differently. Either the DMV has a higher level of anxiety, or more unhealthy people, or both!

I can tell from the reasons put forward for still masking that many maskers are suffering from a form of anxiety, whether they're on the spectrum or not. Protecting themselves and their families? That's anxiety. Of course, I never approach anyone in a mask or ask them why they're masking, but it doesn't prevent me from occasionally wondering....

I've lived in the DMV from 2012-2015, 2017-2021 and will return next month for a third stint. I've told people that you can feel the anxiety in the air as soon as the plane lands, and anyone familiar with the area tends to agree with me.

I think the predominant jobs in the area must attract a certain personality type.

Went to a birthday party this weekend. Out of about 30 guests, 2 had on masks. I would say the masks wearers were in their 40s.

Exactly. We're boring lawyers who can sit in meetings and at computers masked just as easily as unmasked. We're not construction works out there in 110 degree heat or something. And TBH I'm masking because of my coworkers. They're all back to living life which is totally great for them but when you sat in a packed Barbie movie last weekend and are constantly running your kid to the doctor unmasked for whatever they caught at daycare - sorry but I don't want to be unmasked near you.

I don’t mask anymore, but I don’t care if others do. It’s probably smart to throw a mask on at the pharmacy or grocery store, just to reduce getting illnesses in general. Nobody likes being sick, and wearing a mask running errands or going to an indoor crowded venue is an easy way to lower your chance of getting sick. If I didn’t have school aged kids that bring home a ton of germs anyway, I’d consider wearing a mask still when running errands especially in the flu season.

Anyone I see is either unmasked or masked in a K/N95. The days of surgical masks on the chin are gone - you dipshits did that when you felt social pressure. The people masking now are taking it seriously so they’ll spend a few dollars on a mask.
